Luke Schilkamp 72 n.o. Not Enough for the Nomads 16.05.26
Four Losses on the Day.
It’s been a hugely disappointing day for the club, and we need to think about commitment to the cause. All four teams were gasping for breath even before the 1st ball was bowled today as availability was cut to the core. Another day like this and our collective 2026 Sussex League campaign will be in tatters. Nomads Legend Luke Schilkamp can stand proud this evening but his long inns of 72 not out wasn’t enough as the 4s lost at home. A reverse clean sweep can stick in the throat!
William Wycherley Does Damage at Plumpton Div 6
In the Match of the Day several dropped catches didn’t help the cause as Plumpton shrugged off defeat at Poynings last week. Having won the toss Faisal put them in. Skipper George Martin (44) played the holding roll as William Wycherley got on with things. He quickly turned the game with strike rate 100 85 runs. Halfway through his inns he flicked an opportunity to the ropes which was dropped. Ian Jones brought his years of experience to the party to take 2 for 41. In truth Nomads never really got going in the field as Ashworth 59 no and Hazell 41 no put the hosts in a commanding position 266 for 3.
In response all the Nomads top order got starts but none could go on with that meaningful contribution. George was seeing it like a football and will still be thinking about hitting one straight down mid off’s throat for 25. Faisal was playing a skipper’s inns until a freak stumping that will be playing on his mind. There was a moment when that Nomads machine started to stir when Sam Sowerby and Phil Standen put on 50 runs. But overs run out as the hosts took the match by 56 runs and 30 points. Nomads picking up 7.
Khan said later ‘losing doesn’t feel good. But there was a lot of positives. We have a good batting line up. I felt confident we could chase 267 today and we had glimpses of partnerships, but we couldn’t go on to that big one. In the field we perhaps gave away 50 runs today not aided by a couple of dropped catches!’
Plumpton skipper George Martin said ‘It was a great afternoon all around. We always have a good game with the Nomads and today was played in a very good spirit. The Nomads travelled with some excellent youngsters today which just shows that the future is rosy for them. Our opener had a brilliant day which was perhaps the difference. We will look forward to our visit to Fulking’
Bowman said ‘Huge thanks to Plumpton for hosting the game. Despite the result it was very entertaining afternoon with lots of runs being scored. A big shout out to the staff behind the scenes for producing a brilliant and traditional tea which went down well and the bar staff. The two umpires Kelvin Speirs and Malcolm Eldridge were ‘invisible’ but played a major part in the day’s entertainment. They were brilliant.
Our Threes will need to dust down very quickly and settle to a huge opportunity back at home against Rottingdean on Saturday’
Ones Don’t Get out of First Gear at Bridges. Sussex Prem.
Two’s skipper Oliver Gatting continued his fine early season form with a 46 at number three. However, after being slung in the team never really got going on a traditional good pitch at Bridges. J and Cannon got us off to a solid start of 34 but early wickets fell. Felix is batting well down the order for the ones but his 24 not out wasn’t enough as we settled on 184 off 46 overs.
In reply, Russell 66 no and Boyle 64 got the job done during a miserable time in the field. Bridges chased 30 points and 185 in just 29 over. Nomads picking up 6 points.
Twos battered by Bensons at Home Div 2
Our Two’s annual and most important objective is Division 2 survival and last weeks brilliant win at Bolney got us off to a flyer. Unfortunately, it was nil points today on the North as fierce rivals Brighton held all the aces. That division two competitive edge showed its teeth as we got rolled for 114.
Losing to them at home is one thing being thrashed by them is entirely different!
Schildkamp 72 not out in Fours loss a Highlight. Div 7
Mal was still out of action due to injury as our fours were looking to get a foothold in Div 7. Portslade decided to bat and soon De-Ville 53 and Vardy 62 got them on the way. Giles scored 27 late on as they finished on 214 all out. Burney taking three for 25.
Luke settled well with Mike (41) mid inns as Nomads looked to get something going. However, it was a false dawn as cheap wickets fell. Portslade prevailed by 56 runs.
Congratulations to Bridges, Brighton. Plumpton and Portslade on their wins today who will all take extra pleasure in beating the Nomads. It’s a chafing day around the SCMG one which hopefully won’t be repeated for a long time to come. Its time to digest, get prep done and come out fighting next weekend.
Let’s Go!!!
