Nick and Archie Shine in Week 13 but Club Momentum Stalls with just 51 Points. 1/8/2026

Let’s begin with some positives.  Firstly, huge thanks to Cuckfield for hosting both our Ones and Fours yesterday. There was a really good atmosphere around the club house and you guys played in great spirit.  Thanks to the bar staff for looking after us all day. Good luck in your quest to remain in the Sussex premier league.  On the Main Ground both teams produced a shed load of runs well over 600 on a belter of a track.  Nick Greenwood and Archie Lenham continued their stella Sussex League form with mighty tons that’s after having to build from a shaky platform. On the North ground Mal was her usual miserly performer with the ball, 7 overs for just 14 runs. Huge congrats to Ellis on his ton. At home Fas scored 55 on the south as Taylor took 4 for 32.  On the North Adam and Ammad both scored a half century.

One’s Draw at Cuckfield.  18 points Sussex Prem

Nick Greenwood is starting to motor as our opening overseas batter. He is clearly enjoying his role as anchor man in the 58 over format. He scored 192 at Horsham and followed up with a superb 177 yesterday including 5 sixes.  After losing his top order early in the day he had to dig in.  Archie Lenham is in the batting form of his life right now making all look very easy indeed. He hit four or five delicious forward drives all along the ground. His timing spot on. As both players went past their tons it was then a race as boundaries came in quick succession.  Archie hit 22 fours eventually going for 131.  There was time for Jonty to take two tiles off the clubhouse roof and launch perhaps the best shot in Sussex yesterday.  A clean reverse six over Cuckfield’s tree. He hit 32 in just 12 deliveries. We rested on a massive 393 for 8 off 56 overs.  Huge credit to Cuckfield who put in a solid effort with the ground fielding.  You guys never gave up out there.

Nav took out opener Figgins for 17, a nice catch from debutant keeper Joe Gilligan but in truth Cuckfield looked safe and secure all inns. Josh Gander made 56, Galbriath Gibbons 32 and Joe Cambridge 38. Skipper Chris Mole brought home the draw and 13 points with an unbeaten half century.  235 for 6 off 54 overs.

It was a smashing game of cricket played in great spirits. However, if Nomads are wanting to go deep with their title aspirations, we will need to win all the remaining 5 games.  Its West Chilts at home next week.

Twos Allow Basement Pagham 321 off 48 Overs. Then got skittled.  Div 2

Ziggy started fast by snaring the opener for just a single. However, the good news ended rather sharply as Pagham skipper Nick Smith just sorted batted us out of the game.  He smashed six sixes and 19 fours on route to 167 in just 139 balls.

In reply Adam scored a steady 57 and Ammad 65.  But as the saying goes ‘if you can’t win don’t lose it!’  I guess we didn’t read the memo as 186 for 6 became 198 all out and just 8 points.

We were lucky in that Worthing also lost yesterday which keeps that race for 4th to bottom wide open.  We need dust down and perhaps forget yesterday ever happed and go again at St James on sat.

Threes lose at home to bottom club Balcombe  Div  6

Perhaps this was the biggest bolt from the blue.  Our threes have been playing rolls royce cricket for weeks now eyeing up a promotion spot. However, that notion dissipated somewhat as Balcombe somehow sneaked up on the rails late last night.  Henry Dougall 70 and Alex Botting 48 were the cornerstone of 216 all out.  Three’s kept the extra’s in check and Cox had a good day 4 for 32.   In reply Sameer and Dishanth got us off to a great start 31 without.  However, except for Fas 55 not one batsman could go on to something meaningful.  At 167 6 Nomads must have felt in control.  It wasn’t to be as the tail wilted 16 runs behind.

With 5 games to go our Threes are 45 points off that promotion spot.  They play Scaynes Hill at home on Saturday

Fours don’t make use of 51 extra’s and opportunities in the field.   Div 7

This is one of the hardest things I have ever had to write but our fours played like a team who have already accepted their fate.  After a couple of recent wins this was the perfect opportunity to have a right old go at a side lacking in confidence.  But in truth, despite being offered several game changing gifts, we rolled.

Walid and Sam got us going with 39 without.  However, it was a poor day with the bat with only Phil 26 and Graham 39 making any real progress.  Cuckfield were in a very generous mood allowing us 51 extra’s to become the top scorer.  192 all out.

In reply Mal continued some stella form allowing just 14 runs off 7 overs. But there was a lack of cohesion, noise and energy in the field as opening bat Ellis Buckeridge offered up three ‘very’ presentable chances on route to a ton.  We never recovered as Cuckfield romped home.

If our 4s are to avoid an immediate return to div 8 then we need to forget yesterday and move on to Crawley Down next week with renewed vigour and fight. With 5 games to go we are just 26 points off safety.  That great escape is still on, just!

Week 13 of the 2026 Sussex League season wont go down well in our history.  I am guessing there are some raw nerves out there this morning and quite rightly so. But season 2026 is far from over.  Nomads can go to Hove, have a say in the Premier title race, remain in div 2, get div 6 promotion and provide a div 7 escape.

Let’s Go!
