Thank God for James McKemey!
Two’s are Diamond in the Rough.
It seems a long while ago since we were taking hinges off doors and singing loudly after a brilliant start to our season way back in early May. My message then was enjoy but it was only a start. Move on two long weeks and we have picked up just 84 points from a possible 240. Guys, we are Nomads let’s get it sorted!
Club Legend Jimmy Mac gets it done on the North. EG downed. Div 2
Our Two’s environment should be something that we are all very proud to be associated with. Hard work by skippers James and now Oliver have produced and maintained a level of cricket which is of a high calibre and competitiveness. Just peek at the table to see some monsters on the list!. Talking of monsters East Grinstead, the once highly regarded Prem outfit travelled to Fulking yesterday and left gasping for air at the bottom of division 2.
EG won the toss and slung us out into the furnace on the North square. Jack Ancill held the middle order together with 79 not out. Nobody went with him except Mathew Ritchie 22 not out as they rested on a good score of 195 for 6. Muadh excellent up top nine overs two for 23.
Muadh also opened the batting but was quickly off (retired not out). However it was our legendary keeper Jimmy, who held everything together with 71 not out with Khan who came back later in the piece to see us to victory in 41 overs and 30 huge points. Mid table this morning.
James, add 23rd May 2026 to your huge list of accomplishments and honours here at the SCMG. I salute you!
Bognor Out Bat Nomads at the Oval. Sussex Premier League
Nav and the boys made that long trek west to take on a Bognor outfit who have acquitted themselves well to life in the Premier League. The Regis Oval was looking particularly splendid, outfield a rich green as benefitted from recent rains the track offering something for the bowler and once settled a lot for the batter. Under blue skies and warm temperatures, you couldn’t have asked for better cricket conditions.
In the early stages both Nav and Zayn looked in great form as the Bognor top order looked a little nervy. The dangerous Maskell out for just 7. Beynon-Ayres and Mason then took some outrageous run gambles turning nothing into singles and ones into twos as we toiled in the field. They took the score to 92 for 2. Skipper Dabinett-Jays and Jaycocks then batted really well to secure half centuries and perhaps create the winning partnership. That gave licence for the tail to have a good old swipe as they went to a competitive score of 256 for 8.
In reply Jaedyn seemed to try and carve a straight one which took his middle stump. That early wicket set the tone for some gun fielding from the hosts. Phillips (16) and Ibrahim (21) were striking the ball nicely but were finding it hard to get past diving bodies. Both going caught behind with ‘debated’ decisions. Not for the 1st time this season Archie Lenham (71) has stepped up with a ‘Root’ like inns which preserved a feeling of hope for us Nomads. He and Ammad (58) settled to a near 150 partnership. But with tails up and a baying mob on the touch lines, suitably beered up, we had no answer to the onslaught. AOB was run out 19 runs short to a huge chorus of delirium at the Oval. Nomads silent! 7th in the table.
Three’s Need to Get Real after Back-to-Back Losses. South Square. Div 6
A strong looking Threes team must have been looking forward to home soil and great facilities as Rottingdean travelled. They elected to bat and used our brilliant south track in great style. Hobbs and Crane put on 48 but Josh Woolcott (74) put the icing on what was a great score of 268 for 5 off the 40. In reply, Nomads never got rolling or competitive and were skittled for 153 with just 7 points. They are in the bottom two this morning.
Fours Go Three and Zip in Division 7 at Keymer.
With Mal out of action our 4s seem to have lost that steely, competitive edge as we find a route into the new div 7 environment. Keymer scored 210 with Jamie taking 4 and Darren taking 3. The damage done by Duplock (61) and Fairfax (52). Standen rescued some pride with 34 but we were rolled for 92. Fours are bottom this morning.
There were some harsh words spoken by an emotional Club Captain as we sat in silence after the game. He said ‘you can’t control the uncontrollable, but you can control the controllable. I thought our fielding was lacklustre and not at the standard needed. We probably gave them 25 runs out there. Then with the bat there were wrong shot selections and that’s why we lost that game. Not because of any decisions made’ He went on ‘our training needs to be stepped up. We seem to ‘piss about’ and don’t do any fielding practice and we aren’t getting any better. When we win titles our fielding is second to none!’ He finished ‘The Sussex Premier league is improving all the while, and we need to move with it!’
Bowman says ‘I suspect that Nav is probably sending that message far and wide across the entire Nomad membership!’
First of all, huge thanks to Bognor for hosting the Match of the Day congratulations to them for producing a brilliant day for the neutral. Big shout out to Chairman Richard who was front side and visible throughout the day. However, I am not a neutral I am a NOMAD!
Sack me as your press officer if you want but let’s stop blaming umpires shall we. As cricket players, you’re going to get bad decisions and good ones through out the season. Let’s all look in the mirror and ask as a collective. How can we get back to winning cricket matches!
See you next week.
