Saturday 30th May 2026 A Good Day for Nomad League Tons. More Needed !
Sameer, Matthew and Luke!
Our annual pilgrimage for that 1st League ton took a little while to present this season however on a hot sunny day in late May we celebrated not one, not two by three on the same day. They came at Balcombe, Pagham and at Fulking.
Sameer Hammed hits 9 sixes at Balcombe. 115.
In perhaps the most devastating batting onslaught of the season thus far Nomads newcomer Sameer smashed to all parts of the ground in quick time his 115 coming in 60 balls. His ton came up as most of us were just settling in the day’s play. It was a remarkable knock part of a total of 380 and a Nomads Div 6 Threes away victory.
We caught up with him recently. ‘It was a really nice wicket to bat on and they were bowling in my zone. A very enjoyable day!’ As to his time at the Nomads he said ‘I am really enjoying being here, the ground is lovely and the captain and three’s players are excellent’
Sameer received a gift of 6 months inclusion to our 100 Club number 148. I hope he wins!
Matthew Miller breaks Pagham Resistance with 116.
In the match of the day Matt broke all Pagham resistance with a well-crafted and well-timed ton batting at 5. He did some early damage with a straight six in his first over but then settled with Adam to hit some amazing cricket shots. Under the hot sun Pagham looked rinsed by the end as Matt went to his ton in 80 odd balls and 4 sixes. Our Twos went onto record a brilliant win with Miller adding the cherry with a late hat trick!
He said after ‘I wanted to make a good partnership with Adam and after the half century then wanted to go on and make a big one to help the team!’
As previously reported Matt is now back at home in Antigua playing high class Island cricket. Matt if you’re reading, we hope it’s going well. He left with a small token of a framed photo of his 2s teammates at Pagham.
Legend Luke S Carries Bat on the South Square. 115 not out
Luke is a true Nomads legend and has been operating up top with bat and ball for many seasons. He was my top tip for the feat and he didn’t disappoint. The other two tons were power knocks while Luke operated with guile, patience and a whole lot of skill to complete his unbeaten ton against Cuckfield. Unfortunately for him and the 4s they failed to get home on the day.
Luke quipped ‘I batted for a long time!’ but had some advice ‘50s and 60s are good but if you have the chance to go big it really helps the team’
Luke’s performance that day gives the perfect example of what you want from your opener. A strong hand, an anchor to build a big total around.
His prise was a hand-picked bottle of 13 year old Scotch single malt from Blair Athol as picked out by Jamie Patrick whose family are in the trade. Huge thanks to him. Luke, hope you are enjoying!
30th May seems a while ago now and just Archie (at Middleton) has joined the 2026 league ton brigade. With the perfect day coming up on Saturday there is scope and opportunity for more.
Let’s Go Nomads.
