Chair Rosalind calls MCC VPs day ‘A Resounding Success’ 29/7/2026
Mal and Archie star for Nomads while J Shaw scores 45 for the MCC in exciting days’ Cricket Its a Draw!
Ros said ‘We enjoyed our annual Nomads’ Vice Presidents’ Day on Wednesday, when our Vice Presidents and their guests were welcomed to the Spen Cama ground for lunch, afternoon tea and a day’s cricket between a PNCC XI and an MCC XI. It was a beautiful day, with a welcome breeze from the Downs taking the edge off the summer heat. As always, the ground looked magnificent, with the flowers surrounding the clubhouse in full bloom and providing a stunning backdrop. Around 50 Vice Presidents and guests joined us, enjoying the opportunity to reconnect and reminisce with old friends while watching an entertaining day’s cricket. Lunch and afternoon tea were exquisitely prepared and presented by Malissa and her team, whose efforts were greatly appreciated by everyone. Although the match ended in a draw, the day itself was undoubtedly a resounding success. We’re already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for Vice Presidents’ day in 2027.
Nomads Club Captain Nav Patel had the honour of looking after the playing side. He penned a brilliant match report as below.
The MCC vs Nomads match was a great fun day in the sun. The SCMG looked an absolute picture. I won the toss and allowed the MCC to bat first. Nomads quickly took control of the game through the introduction of the Friendly Fixture wizard Malorie Short into the attack. She bowled will great control and accuracy to pick up 3 key wickets. She hardly bowled a bad ball in 7 overs on the trot down the hill in the heat. At one stage her figures were 3wickets for 4 runs off 4 overs with 3 maidens. Nomads ended up bowling MCC out for 215. Cannon bowled cleverly to pick up 2 wickets and Jake Vosloo continues to amaze with his skill and picked up 2 wickets as well. Groundsman Plummer also rolled back the years with 2 nagging overs down the hill before lunch. Nomads initially went about the chase looking to knock the runs off but the MCC seam heavy bowling attack meant that the over rate was slow and time in the day quickly began to run out. Adam Ibrahim laid a solid foundation with 45 opening up but then it was left to the middle order of Archie, Cannon and Nav to chase 175 off the last 20 overs. MCC seamers and spinners bowled well on a baked pitch making it very hard to score and in the end the game ended in a draw with Nomads 35 runs short of the total. Archie continued his great form with 52. All in all a very enjoyable day’s cricket.
We want to send a massive thanks to MCC for sharing their time with us and hope your team and officials enjoyed the day.
