Nav Patel Leads Nomads to Sussex T20 Semi Final 26/7/2026.
Club Captain Nav batted well, bowled well and then made a hugely significant decision under pressure which polarised a generational win for the Nomads on the North.
Nomads produced something very special today where the whole team all contributed to a world class fielding performance. They needed to with just 131 runs to play with. Electing to bat on a warm day in Fulking appeared a positive move. However, Bridges aren’t T20 champions for nothing and were soon very much on top. Nick and Dan got starts but couldn’t go on. Archie had a rare failure. However, Jonty Jenner is just starting to motor under the Nomad banner, and he quickly got us out of trouble. He smashed two sixes on route an important 44 off 27 balls. However, it was the Skipper 30 not out at 8 and Stuart at 9 who held the back end together. They rotated the strike well and ran quick twos as the score went to something worth fighting for. 130 for 8.
In response Matt Boyle threatened a repeat of his recent league performance scoring 4 boundaries with ease. However, Zayn produced a seed which rose off a length to produce a tickle to Ollie Gatts. No mistake from our wicket keeper. Joe Walker threatened with a run a ball 24 until Stuart had him caught. Bridges were well up with the rate until Nav introduced Harry Eastman bowling up the hill. With immediate impact he bowled the dangerous Golding for three. Then Nav conjured up a plan to have him come down the hill just two overs later. It was inspired as Harry took out Brown middle stump. Nomads sensed the impossible especially as Jonty caught Cowdrey for 23. As the run rate soared Bridges last chance stood with Thomson who was hitting 166 sr. However, having smashed one down the ground Jenner was on the move, steadied all his nerves and with a clear mind held the match winning catch. It was quite breath taking! There was time for Faith to roll back the years steady himself and remove the bails for a final run out. Bridges 5 short!
Nav said later ‘it was a great game to be part of, two quality sides going at it hammer and tong for the duration. It’s a wonderful advert for the large crowd in here today’ As to Harry he said ‘ Easty is on a heater at the moment, and he was the go to man in the middle. We got him on and he did exactly what was expected of him’ As to JJ he said ‘we all know that Jonty is one of the best fielders in Sussex and he is in the hot spots for that reason!’ As to the final ‘we all want to have that opportunity to play under those Hove lights but first we have to win the semi final’
Huge thanks to both teams for producing something very special. Bridges have been darlings of Sussex T20 cricket for some time now and we wish them all the best with their regional finals in Hampshire. You guys a real credit to the County. But today Nomads produced something very special indeed to give that generational effort in the field. Ground fielding was energetic, clean with no less than six great catches. Jonty’s 2nd a worldy. Nav is in the form of his Nomad career right now as Skipper. His 30 runs critical. His 1 for 26 crucial. But that move to get Harry on both ends in the middle. INSPIRING. You are the Man of the Match.
We go to the Semi in good spirits!
