Zayn Bags a SCMG Ton as Sunday Squad Beat Cuckfield. 17th April 2022
Our Sunday and Third team skipper Faisal Khan is determined to revive flagging interests in this format. His first 2022 adventure proved to be a positive success where both teams would have enjoyed a competitive match played in an excellent spirit. In addition, they were treated to a wonderful Jan Smith tea! It will be interesting to watch the fortunes of our Sunday team and assess if Nomads can increase the number of fixtures going forward.
In sunny, dry mild conditions Nomads won the toss and decided to have a bat on the north pitch. After a solid opening stand of 23 the skipper batted well at 3 as the score went to 66 for 2. The inns was then given some real zing as Zayn Khan went in at number 6. Clearly in great form he went on to motor past a half century with a boundary. With overs running out he went on to secure an impressive century with just two balls remaining. Nomads rested on 237 for 6 off the 40 overs.
Tea Taken
In reply Cuckfield put together a dangerous response where no less than five players all got decent starts. Opener Bettsworth the main stay up top with a nice 46 runs. Dom Sear played nicely for a 41 and then Dan Turner looked to be playing Cuckfield towards victory with a charge of boundaries on route to a quick 32.
However, the Nomads proved their strength in depth halting the Cuckfield charge 20 runs short nine down.
Man of the Match Zayn told me after (the full interview can be seen on twitter and whatsapp) ‘I was very pleased to score a century in my first game of the season. Hopefully the Nomads can retain the Premier League and I can be a part of the squad’ Well Zayn, the skipper has you noted!

Great day of cricket today.
Nomads faced cuckfield cc on the glorious spen cama ground.
Batting first nomads set a target of 254 for 6. Thanks to a brilliant ton from zayn Khan, backed up by some good hands from Chris borsoi, Ombashi and Oscar Sheffield.
Defending the target nomad opening bowlers ombashi and prem bowled extremely well and with good strong intent. Ombasbi picked up early wicket removing their opener. Oscar Sheffield then took the ball from ombashi and picked up where he left off with same aggression and also bagged a couple of wickets in his spell. The middle overs from zayn, luke and rudy went for a few as cuckfield showed clear intentions to win the game. Their pace slowed down when the spin of Mike burney was introduced while also picked up crucial wickets in his spell ( welldone Mike)
In the end it was a close game and nomads successfully defended the target to beat cuckfield by 24 runs.
Many thanks to Jan Phil and Andy all their support and making it such and enjoyable day.
