Nomads Top the Sussex Premier League!

The sun was shining, covers were off and even the temperature was on the rise.  Saturday 20th May 2023 turned into a brilliant day for the Nomads as our 1st and 2nd team enjoyed very convincing league wins.

Jenner Half Century Helps Nomads to Roffey  SCMG Victory.

For the 2nd week running skipper Nav Patel decided to have a bat and his line up definitely got the memo.  Nathan Poole made a very solid start up top with a 49 ball 33. However, it was Jersey born Jonty Jenner who lite up the SCMG with two, early inns straight drives for six.  He has been brought back to the club to brighten up the engine room with his fabulous ball striking abilities.  After 46 balls he had amassed a wonderful half century.  Keeper Joe Musto and the skipper himself kept up the great work with a 30 and 34.  Quickie Dan Birrell, 21 not out, put the icing on a great Nomads performance 229 for 9 off 50 overs.

Rivers and Phelps got the reply off to a very solid start 32 with out loss.  However last Saturdays Man of the Match Joe Musto was at it again. In a blink of an eye, he made three pouches behind the stumps as the visitor were reduced to 57 for 3.  Overseas Josh Clarkson then perhaps produced the standout moment running out the dangerous George Fleming for a duck.  Spinners AOB and Will then helped themselves to two each as Roffey crumbled to 119 all out.

The 30 point win put our ones in a good position in the early Sussex Premier League scrimmages. Indeed, at the very summit!

The lads will now enjoy the moment but then get back to training before heading off to Middleton on Saturday.

Twos Go to Rye and Pick up a Brilliant Win.   Div Three.

With James ‘overwise’ engaged.  (and we shall catch up with the family very soon) Gatts had the honour of leading the team out at the Salts.  It’s a long trek but boy it was worth it as Oliver reports.

The 2nds lost the toss and were asked to bowl.  Ziggy and Zayne opened up, with ziggy bowling a threatening line and Zayne bowling with some real pace, reducing Rye to 4 down at the end of their spell.  Then the golden arm of Jacques came on, who picked up two wickets in his first over, to add to his two runouts.  Overall, a much better bowling and fielding display resulted in bowling Rye out for 122.  We lost two early wickets in our chase, reducing us to 30-2, which brought Baalaaj and Faithy to the crease who both batted really well to take us to the brink of victory for the loss of 3 wickets, with ballaaj hitting 50 and faithy 46*.

Huge congrats to the twos, that’s a top class win at a very tough away venue!   The lads are back at home on Saturday against Ansty.

Threes Spell Broken by Edenbridge who make 299!  Div 6  SCMG

Your press officer learnt a big lesson on Saturday and that’s never underestimate an opposition.  Edenbridge turned up not having bowled a ball in anger this term and I assumed it would turn into a threes victory.  How wrong could I be as Faisal describes.

Tough day today lads and with the luck riding with the Edenbridge opener it would have been a different story if he was out like he was in the first couple of overs. It was clear once they were 4 down they had no batting strength which we will remember on our next date with them.
Lots to learn and a lot of positives from today too.
First off all I truly believe that we have the best bowling attack in the league and we should be bowling teams out very cheaply but we need to up our game my pitching the ball in the right areas and let the ball talk, fielding has to improve and we deffo need to put handbrakes on the extras,
Positives, guys yes we lost but our chase had a lot of character in it and its clear that we have a no die attitude and need to keep carrying that till the end.
I am super super confident that we can and will win this league, let’s this day not be looked as a loss but a lesson learnt
BIG AND STRONG NOMADS

The squad can get right back to it and back up Division 6 with a win at Ditchling on Saturday.

Bowmans Extras Watch

We are not alone in giving away far too many extra in an inns.  Sussex gave up 64 today in their 2nd go against Glamorgan. Far too many leg side byes for my liking !

1st Team  week 1 19 week 2 18.

2nd Team week 1  23 week 2 18

3rd Team  week 1  39 week 2 35

4th Team week 1   12 week 2  26

Well, there is some positive improvement with the 1s 2s and 3s coming down. But as Fas says above 3s need to do a lot more. 4s must do better. The ones get this week’s award but 18 is high when you consider that Roffey only gave a miserly 4 and were out there a lot longer.

Keep going with this Nomads. Extras will be the difference between winning and losing a game some time this season.

1st League Ton watch

Each season I am always on the hunt to report on the first Nomad league ton. Hopefully it will come next Saturday and will call it by offering up Nathan Poole to score it!

Well, there you have it.  Its all good around the SCMG as spring progresses to early summer. I hope you agree there is a real buzz about the place!
