U13s, Mayday ECB Pride of Nomads.

Our U13s and Haywards Heath U13s produced a memorable ECB cup game on the South Square where Nomad boys scraped home to record an excellent ECB Cup victory.

Under leaden skies and chilly temperatures it was the Nomads who batted first. Early runs were freely available as the hosts scooted past 50 with out loss. Excellent batting was the order of the that early middle part of the inns. However with Nomads looking to go big the Heath bowlers got their lines right for the closing salvo. What could of been 175 turned into a 149 all out off the last ball of the inns.

At the break Manager Tom H, told his team that they had batted well but the job was only half done. ‘Haywards Heath are a great side and we will need to work hard to see this through’

Those leaden skies did turn to rain early in the chase as a cold wind blew across the south downs. Haywards Heath openers applied themselves well and built a promising platform as the score swept to 50 with out loss. Adam Ibrahim was introduced to the attack and the team were rewarded with a break through which was much needed. At 14 overs a rumble of thunder echoed across the ground but the lads remained steadfast. The score 80 for 2. The scorers retreating to the south square scoring hut!

With three overs to go an exciting encounter was very much in the balance and all connections were glued to the action. With Heath needing 30 runs they began to throw bat at everything. Several boundaries and some ‘untidy’ extra’s helped their cause. However, Nomads held their collective nerve in the last over to record a 10 run victory and passage into the next round.

Bowman say’s ‘please note that play cricket will soon be uploaded with the full scorecard and you can see photos and a full interview with manager Tom H on the group WhatsApp channel. Huge congrats U13s on a fighting display in tricky conditions. The club needed a lift and you guys provided that today. There were some great performances but in T20 things can change in a heartbeat. My MOM goes to master Packham who smashed 10 runs in two balls. Its what T20 is all about! Good luck in the next game and keep it going’

In other Junior news our U10s played out an entertaining win at Lewes Priory on Saturday morning. In ‘pairs’ format with plastic balls Nomads made several good catches and fielded well as 10 wickets were collected. In reply the batting was safe and secure to record a win. Manager Ralph Scrase was very pleased with his team citing ‘I was very pleased at how the players communicated with each other when batting and we fielded well’ (Please see a full interview on Whatsapp)

Our U9s played on Sunday morning at Adastra Park and ran out convincing winners as runs and wickets were shared around.

And finally the U11s played out a brilliant game on the North Square (the first game there of the season) this morning. It seems that all connections had a lot of fun. Please see a full interview with U11s Manager Peter F on whattsapp where he was very happy how his team had performed.

Our Junior Section has made a very promising start to season 2021 in particular the U13s. Lets keep it rolling!
