U13s ECB Progression. 9th June 2021 SCMG

Cricket won out after a pulsating cup match involving 22 U13s at the SCMG yesterday evening. Against a vista of bright sunshine and a stunning views to the South Downs Nomads action against Brighton got underway at 6pm. It was match that was to test the nerves of players, coaches and fans alike. Everyone at the ground was fully charged and focused for every ball. It was an honor to be there!

Brighton got a fast start with the bat scoring 20 off the 1st two overs including a couple of boundary byes. While the visitors looked to get on the front foot it was the Nomads quickie who cleaned bowled the opener. After that spin was deployed as the run rate decreased to a trickle. At around 40 for 4 Brighton had to take some chances. It was then that a barrage of wickets fell. Including a marvelous catch under a hanging ball. In the end the visitors had to settle for 73 hard fought runs.

In reply Nomads got off to a cautious start with the two openers steady. After 3 overs it was 12 for 2. Brighton then produced the champagne moment with a spectacular run out. All of the Brighton lads loudly celebrated in a massive huddle, great to see. Soon after another wicket fell and things got a little tight. However mom Angus quickly shifted the balance back to the Nomads. A powerful inns including a huge 6 meant that the tail could nurdle to victory.

Solid celebration from the Nomads camp accompanied the winning run and then handshakes. A truly wonderful advert for Junior Cricket.

Manager Tom H said after, ‘I am very proud of the boys its the 1st time we have beaten Brighton’ Asked how far our U13s can go in the comp he ventured ‘ it would be lovely to win the Sussex final but not to trot out a cliche we take every game as it comes!’
