Twos off to a Flyer at Bolney as 7 Catches Held. 9/5/2026
‘Windy Miller’ in the Thick of It Again as Kash takes five.
Under blue skies, dry humid conditions our Twos travelled to Division Two newcomers Bolney (complete with a well on site) who were going to be buzzing for their 1st match at level. They got a lot of things right in the early stages as they soared, but Gatts has his team set up well and little by little wrestled the advantage. A brilliant team performance saw 7 great catches and then our 2s overseas Matt Miller hit a very quick 26 ball half century to wrap up 30 points on opening day.
Bolney won the toss and decided to have a bat as Nomads took to the rather unorthodox outfield. The contours dance in all directions with little idiosyncrasies which will be a huge advantage to the hosts as the season unfolds. Gould (20) and Muhammad (49) got them off to the perfect start with a 67-opening partnership. They had a bit of luck on their side as three Miller deliveries were ‘Chinese Cut’ for four. However, Kash was in the mood taking Gould with a seed that turned a mile. Then Jaedyn, with a very sore finger by this point, ran in from the boundary to take a steepling catch to remove the dangerous Muhammad. It was the start of a stunning sequence of great catches. Zane, George (the pick of them), Matt, Jamie, Stuart and Kash all take a bow. Kash taking 5 for 39 off his nine allotted. He will of course grab all the headlines but there was a lot to like about how the two’s went about their business. Oliver was strong behind the stumps all afternoon. George was fit and mobile as the outlier. Miller will be pleased to have been given the chance to come back later in the piece to grab two wickets. Jake Voslloo bowled with accuracy and was in complete control of his nine overs. A pleasure to watch him in action. 87 for 1 became 180 all out as the hosts only utilised 37 overs.
Adam is becoming quite the opener. What he lacks in statue is more than made up by craftmanship and timing. He and J were a pleasure to watch for an hour as the hosts toiled. The former hit a huge six moving on to 39 before being ‘adjudged’ LBW. Adam hit five silky boundaries on route to a steady and calming 40. Skipper Gatts (25) played an excellent holding role in the middle as the score board ticked nicely along. It was at this point that most of the 1st teamers had arrived to cheer the twos home. We had taken over the Vicarage Ground! And they saw a pulsating victory lap as Matthew Miller bludgeoned a 26-ball half century. The winning runs coming off a stunning pull shot.
Gatting said later (full interview on wattsapp) ‘That’s a great win, they got off to a flyer but to bowl them out for 180 shows real character from the guys’ As to Matt he said ‘he great fun to bat with he hits a big ball’
We caught up with Matt later he said ‘It’s been an enjoyable experience so far being here at the Nomads. Today the game plan was to see the team to victory by playing positively’ I asked him how he see’s his game he said ‘I like to think of myself as an allrounder who perhaps enjoys batting a little more’ Unfortunately as it stands us Nomads will need to make the most of Matt while we can as he explained ‘sadly I am leaving at the end of the June when school ends (Bede’s) back to Antigua. But I will be using this time to improve, enjoy and hopefully win games with the Nomads’
Bowman says 1st of all many thanks to Bolney for hosting us in their Division 2 debut. A huge shout out to Chairman Matt Smith who is driving the club forward and yesterday produced a lovely tea for the players. Bolney have a lot of plans for future ground regeneration. But in the short term yesterday was a very enjoyable experience and we wish you all the best for the season ahead.
Our Twos were pretty special on the day in a match that could have easily gotten away. We fielded like guns out there and kept extras to a minimum. I have always said you get the boring basics right consistently the good stuff will take care of itself. That was the case here as Kash,Matt, J and Adam came up with the big plays. However, my MOM goes to a young player who quietly went about his business all day and then produced match turning control of an inns which was getting away from us. Jake, I salute you!
Two’s have set the bar High!
