Before getting into the action, Chris if you are reading, I am sure that everyone at both clubs will be wishing you a speedy recovery. Just to note that Chris Borsoi had to leave the field nursing a shoulder injury mid-way through the 1st inns. Thank you to everyone who assisted in the 1st aid treatment and subsequent transfer to the injury’s unit in Uckfield.

Both teams can be very proud to have served up such a mesmerising game of cricket which swung one way then the other which ended in a thrilling final over.  Ammad Khan kept the large audience on its feet as he nearly won the day with a brilliant 78 not out. However, it was the hosts who were celebrating as the last ball of the day flew into the keeper’s gloves and not to the boundary. It was that close!

Having elected to bat Buxted got off to the perfect start under clear skies and ‘mild’ temperatures. Any hinted rain forecast stayed away leading to a full uninterrupted days play. Kerkar and Forster will have been pleased with 50 with out loss as the Nomad strike bowlers toiled away. Ammad Khan’s slower pace brought immediate reward with Forster miss timing to Zidane Khan at point.  Drinks brought about a sudden change as Ravi Jadav had the dangerous Barnes LBW for 39 and then the Nomads champagne moment. In a scene played out many times in the past two club legends Kash and McKemey combined to claim opener Eknath Kerkar (47) who was starting to look very fluent indeed.   Ammad went on to claim excellent figures of 9 overs 4 for 35.  However, in a day neither team dominated it was left to the big hitting Iain Allan who perhaps created the ultimate winning surge.  His 28 runs coming off just 16 balls including 4 huge maximums. One hit a parked Vw Golf (see on twitter)  It paved the way for a competitive 228 for 9 off the 45 overs.

Openers Herft (33) and Bartosh-Short will probably be annoyed not to have gone on but a 47 opening partnership marks a great start for the team.  Ollie Gatting showed real class in making 36 off 41 balls including four boundaries before being bowled. The score 123 for 3.  However, it was the patience of Ammad Khan, batting at 4, that was to be admired.  He went about his business in a professional and tidy manner.  Never swinging across the line and always respecting the good delivery.  He set about batting out the inns and in turn following his skipper’s advice to a letter.  Kash joined him 139 for 4 and the pair went on to 60 run partnership which looked good enough to see the Nomads home. Kash had to depart on 32 with the score on 198 for 5.  The game then quickly swung the other way as James Ravi and Zidane managed just 4 runs between them.

A huge Khan six off the penultimate ball of the game set up a thrilling climax but Buxted held their nerves to win by three runs.     30 points Buxted 13 to the Nomads.

James said later (full interview on whatsapp) ‘that was a heart-breaking game! Ammad was sensational throughout the day, but we gave him too much to do.  We were 90% today but as we know 90% doesn’t win you games of cricket. With three going down from this league we need to start winning games like this. I am gutted at the moment, he joked I am sulking and crying about the way I got out but when I do look back, we did play some great cricket against a very good team’

Bowman said ‘Congrats to Buxted and huge thanks for hosting at your wonderful ground. We wish you the very best today in your Area Final.  Good luck for the remainder of the season and look forward to hosting you back at the SCMG.

One can only stand and admire such a brilliant game of cricket where both sides were going at it from ball one right through to ball 540. It’s the sort of match that you want to watch, and no doubt play in. But it is a body blow to be on the wrong side of the ledger but hopefully our Twos will take this experience and turn those golden opportune moments into winning ones.

Ammad was the standout player by far on both teams and is awarded the MOM.
