The Weather and League Cricket Heats up over the Weekend.

From the BBC charts it looks as though the ambre solaire will need to be slathered on in vast quantities as Summer conditions finally turn up here in Sussex. It’s great news as we have some hot league action to look forward to. In fact our SCMG will be hosting the 2nd most important clash of the day here in Sussex! The 1st of course will down at Hove.

Roffey are top of the Sussex Prem but for how long? Roffey at the SCMG 11.30 start

First team skipper Dan Phillips has been getting a fine tune from his squad after three straight league victories. Its taken us to 2nd place in the Sussex premier. All eyes will be on the North Square come 11am as it top v 2nd. Just to note that the format changes slightly for this game. Its red ball 110 overs on the day. A draw is a possibility!

There is no doubt that Roffey will make the short trip in very confident mood after two wins themselves. On 29th May they edged past Middleton scoring 248 runs and then last week cleared up with a sound thrashing of Hastings at home. Opening bowlers Leigh Harrison and Rohit Jagota both produced very mean figures before the change bowlers shared the wickets. Batting has never been a problem for Roffey. Theodore Rivers and our own Usman Khan have been in the runs as openers. Roffey also have a real weapon up their sleeve as a Sussex CCC sensation, Jamie Atkins might be available for selection. Fresh from a 5 for at Headingly.

All in all a mouth watering encounter to look forward to.

Twos go to Cricket Field Lane Horsham. 12 Start Sussex Div 2

Skipper James M will be pumped after a brilliant ‘road’ victory last Saturday and they have to travel again this weekend. Horsham started out and are probably still favs for promotion as they currently sit second behind surprise package Bognor. They have a record of won 4 and lost one with 122 points. They beat Mayfield away last weekend and smashed Billingshurst the week previous. Oliver Haines 56 batted well up top with Sam Bell and Paul Williams making runs in the engine room. Sam Martin Jenkins took 4 for 39 against Mayfield. The team also might have the services of Sussex CCC professional William Beer who is very dangerous with both bat and ball.

Its a game where the odds are heavily stacked against our lads. However as the format has changed here too James will be conscious that the draw option could be available should the need arise.

Rottingdean 2s Step out on South Square against our 3s Div 3 1 pm start 40 over match

Virtually all experiences I have with Rottingdean CC is off fiercely competitive cricket but those have always been at their wonderful down-lands home facility. I am guessing they take that competitive nature on the road!

David S and the threes will be looking to bounce back from a loss last Saturday and get themselves out of the relegation zone. However its going to a tough against a team that can boast 4 wins already and third place in the league. Last week they rattled up 230 runs against Dormansland with Daniel Andrews scoring 76. In a an exciting match wickets were shared as Land fell 33 runs short.

I think this one will be a nerve shredder and if our Thirds are in top nick and I mean top nick they have a good chance to cause an upset. GO DAVID !!!!

Stephen O at Bolney 4th Team vibe Div 8 1pm 40 overs a side.

Its a mid table clash at The Vicarage Ground where both teams will be looking to claim the maximum points to propel them towards a promotion spot. Bolney have three wins to their name and 102 points. On 29th May Kingsley Morris scored 145 off 113 balls and James Flower scored 104 in a huge 300 total. It was enough to beat Cowden. Last week Simon Adby produced 4 for 25 against Plumpton in a crushing win.

Our 4s to continue their great form and scrape through to victory.

Well there you have it. Four top games to get your teeth into. Whilst I am chomping at the bit to see our 1st team in action against Roffey I need to hang on to my away Nomads vibe. The main feed will come from Bolney where I am very much looking forward to catching up with our 4th team. Please follow the action during the day through the usual channels.

Good luck to all connections.
