Spirit Returns for 1st Team After Two Victories. Sussex Prem and Sussex T20 30th and 31st July 2022
Huge credit to Navin and our 1st team squad who arrested a recent dip in form to land 30 points at home to Middleton and then saw off Three Bridges to progress to the showcase Sussex T20 Cup final at Hove. There was heartfelt jubilation and togetherness in the post-match celebration song. Indeed in the huddle Cannon said ‘ lets all get right on it for the rest of the season, win our remaining League games and then win the T20 Cup. It could still be a season of celebration.
Oliver Gatting is rapidly putting himself into Press Officers Player of the Season contention with important League runs and stepping up to winning 2nd team skipper at times. He scored yet another significant 71 runs as opener on Saturday in front of the Ladies Day participants. Ammad Khan scored an important 44 and Aaron Phillips with a brutal 62 at a strike rate of 130. Will Collard, never shy of a big hit, smashed two sixes on route to a quick 30. The team were well pleased with 293 for 9 off 58 overs.
Middleton were never allowed to get a real foothold in the response. It was a brilliant day for Head Groundsman Dan Birrell who took four for 41. Spinner Bertie Freeman also starred taking 4 for 58.
Middleton shared the runs around and made 190 all out but the it was the Nomads who picked up 30 points.
Sussex T20 Cup Semi Final. Sunday
Overseas Rehan Afridi made an excellent start with a very quick 27 but Bridges bowled and fielded well as wickets fell. Bridges with 6 excellent catches in the inns. Ammad Khan really is in superb form with a match and Man of the Match performance of 49 off 36 including a towering six. Navin Patel scored a very sensible 20 as the score went to 132 for 8 off the allotted.
Bridges got off to a reasonable start with 24 for the 1st wicket. Will O’Donnell was looking to go deep and was looking threatening on 28 before being trapped by AOB. In the Champagne moment Khan rubber stamped a top weekend with a stunning run out of Bridges skipper Joe Walker. Owen Kernan is a real ambassador of the club and his four over spell kept our visitors at bay as we celebrated a massive win.
