Skipper Navin Patel says ‘Jersey sent over a very strong squad.’
Its gone around in a flash but the Nomads have now completed what was an amazing set of 2022 Pre Season games here in West Sussex. After wins against Weybridge, Sussex Uni and Reigate our 1st team had the golden opportunity to test their skills against ICC International Squad Jersey Cricket.
On Sunday Jersey batted first in a 45 over match. Zayn Khan bowled extremely well with four for 47 off 8 overs and AOB took two good catches. However, a robust 61 from 78 balls by keeper Luke Gallichan and other decent contributions including 29 from our own Jonty Jenner saw the visitors rest on 250 all out. In reply opener ,Dan Phillips was in patent mood making a steady 35 off 64 balls. Ammad Khan made a rapid 30 before being bowled out. Nomads can be proud of decent response but they fell 79 runs short.
Huge thanks to Jan Smith for producing a brilliant tea, the Victoria sponge was to die for! I am sure the lads really enjoyed their meal.
On Bank Holiday Monday a T20 game ensued. Batting 1st runs were hard to come by for the Nomads as early wickets fell. Liam O made an excellent 26 off 34 balls and Jersey born Dan Birrell a sprightly 18 off 21 including a six. Nomads finished on 93 all out. Harrison Carlyon and Jonty Jenner showed all their class and International experience to see out a commanding win.
Many thanks to Jersey Cricket Board for taking time out of a busy schedule and travelling to Fulking to be with us over the 2022 May Day Bank Holiday. We hope that your travelling party had an enjoyable time with us and we wish you all the best as the season unfolds.
Nav’s Narrative
The 1st XI had an extremely busy and positive weekend of cricket. The most important match of the weekend was our T20 Cup fixture first up on the Saturday. The team traveled to Burgess Hill CC and put in a commanding performance easing to an 8 wicket win. On Sunday and Monday we hosted Jersey Cricket Board, playing them in a 45 over match and a T20.
Jersey brought over an extremely strong side so it was a great experience for the boys to test themselves against international quality. While the results didn’t go our way against Jersey, I’m still proud of the way the guys conducted themselves and performed. We will not be facing that quality in the Sussex Prem so it was perfect preparation to be challenged in the manner we were. Zayn bowled will great pace all weekend which was very exciting to see and Jaedyn also bowled with great skill against Jersey which backed up his measured and valuable batting in our T20 Cup run chase. Pleasing contributions from young Mani Khan as well.
The team is a very healthy position as we prepare for Eastbourne at home in the first League fixture of the year!
