Quick Junior Section Update.
This current and persistent band of rain across our region is proving a little testing at the moment. Not only our exciting and well attended Friday night training session (18th June 2021) has had to be cancelled fitting in important games is a bit like Tetris. However here at the Nomads our Junior and Girls sections are flying at the moment under the guidance of Director Nav Patel and Ladies coach Malorie Short.
Whilst we have been getting out and about covering various matches around the region this column wants to give a quick snapshot of the current situation and a promise of a more detailed report later in the season.
U11s and U13s Girls Cricket
The Girls have been an absolute delight and have been a real success story around the SCMG. On Tuesdays and Wednesday games have been going on and in true Nomad grit our U11s played through a rain storm this week. As we have eluded to before winning or losing is low on the agenda for the team. Its much more important that they have a lot of fun out there ,pick up some basic skill sets and develop team spirit. On this they are delivering and at every match there is always a large gathering of supporters who are totally focused on every ball.
The season is flying past and there are only around 3 or 4 games left. Good luck to all our Girls Cricket connections over the coming weeks and rest assured we will go into further detail and catch up with Mal in Mid July.
U13s and 15s Exciting ECB Progress.
We have tried to bring you action from the ECB Cup matches and the brilliant news is that both our U13s with Tom, and U15s with Jules are still in this important National competition. As eluded to above recent rain has caused a few headaches for our Team managers and fitting in games is a bit like playing Tetris. However, we are proud Nomads and wont let a bit of rain ruin the party. Our Manager’s along with fixture secretary Tony Doctors are working hard behind the scenes trying to get games rearranged against some strict time lines.
Its all a little complicated right now but hopefully next week the weather will improve and both teams will compete in their next games. From the media suite we will be keeping a close eye on the situation and will be at the games and bring them to you. Tom, Jules, Tony if you are reading good luck in getting this sorted. Cobo
U9s U10s and U11s Weekend Vibe.
Our youngest teams are progressing well. Indeed it was a brilliant weekend with the U11s beating Lewes Priory, U9s beating St Peters with the most exciting match on Saturday morning when the U10s beat St Peters. You may recall that we brought you the winning runs on film through whattsapp.
With further games stretching out until 31st July 2021 there is a lot more weekend excitement for our youngsters. We shall endeavor to bring more as the season progresses.
U12s Monday’s 6pm
Our U12s are doing very well in the League having won three matches so far and sit on 17 points. They travel to Ditchling on Monday for a mid table clash.
U14s Tuesdays 6pm
Our U14s are very a very strong side and have been sweeping to victory. Indeed they beat St James this week when scoring 149 off 20 overs to keep them top of the table. They host St Peters on 22nd June 6pm start. Keep it going !
U16s Wednesdays 6pm
The U16s traditionally start their league later than most owing to school exam timings. Last Wednesday saw our boys in League action at home against Portslade. The team showed a lot of bowling and fielding skills as Portslade struggled to 80 off the 20 overs. Unfortunately heavy rain turned up at the SCMG to curtail the action with the points shared.
With the league now stretching out to mid August you get the feeling that our boys are going to have an excellent campaign. They are at the Uni Grounds on 23rd June against St Peters 6pm start.
We there you have it, a quick snapshot of how our Junior and Girls sections are getting on and stand by for more through the usual channel’s as we go deeper into season 2021.
