Let’s Round up the Weekend.  20/05/2024.

Jonty and Nav Star for Nomads in Three Bridges Home Win.

Our hugely popular Jersey batsman, Jonty Jenner, will get all the headlines this week after belting no less than seven maximums and 18 fours on route to 146 runs off just 78 balls. Indeed it has earned him the Press Officers bottle of Single Malt for the 1st  Nomads league ton of the 2024 season. We shall catch up with him soon and get some reaction to his wonderful inns.  However, our 258 run win turned into the complete team performance with brilliant performances throughout.  Our Club Captain Nav Patel ripped out the Bridges top order with 5 for 28 and Archie L followed 32 runs with an eye catching four wickets for just 5 runs.  Nathan Poole and Sam Topping set the tone early with a strong opening partnership of 63 runs.

There are no prizes on offer in May but our Ones have started 2024 very much on the front foot.  That’s two league wins and progression in both the Sussex T20 and ECB Cup. Things are looking good!

Nav Sends Word.

The boys turned up to the SCMG well up for the fixture. We were taking on a strong Three Bridges side who were yet to lose a game this year.
With a bit of weather around we were intending to bowl first but as usual I lost the toss and we were inserted.
The message to the guys was to fight strong, show application and build partnerships to set a foundation for an explosive finish.
This is the exact template that was followed. Sam Topping and Nathan soaked up a lot of pressure at the start and cashed in with boundaries of loose deliveries to get the scoreboard ticking. Dan Phillips continued this at first drop and looked set for a big one before being unlucky given out stumped.
Enter Jonty Jenner. JJ had his usual aggressive mindset and Archie proved to be the perfect foil for him, ticking it over while jonty seemed to find the boundary at will.
Jonty’s innings will go down as one of the best and most explosive club hundreds ever. The striking was amazingly clean and he cruised to a well deserved hundred at home. He ended up on 148. Mani had an excellent run a ball unbeaten 40 to put the finishing touches on our score which ended up being a mammoth 358!
With the ball we wanted to be ruthless and put in a complete performance.
Myself and Zayn found the ideal length early doors and created pressure which lead to wickets. Biz continued this pressure and found good rhythm down the hill. Archie then came on after my spell to clean up the tail. I ended up with a 5fa which was pleasing and Archie picked up 4.
We ended up bowling Bridges out for 98 to end with a 258 run win!
Certainly a statement early in the season and a nice 30 points in the bank followed by a loud rendition of the song!
Our attention now turns to a double header next weekend with a rematch against Bridges on the Sunday in the Cup.
A perfect start to the season and long may it continue!

Dylan Nicholas Spoils Twos Day at Mayfield. Div 2

It might have been a loss at Mayfield but our Two’s can take great heart in a solid performance which brought 15 very welcome points back the SCMG.

Zidane Khan continued his impressive start to the season with 3 for 56 off 9. Jacques Wilson, thundered in for nine overs and took 3 for 44.  Kiwi Jaedyn took two for 40.  With the hosts looking a little ‘under done’ at 163 for 8 enter Dylan Nicholas at 8.  In what turned into the inns of the day he suddenly found his form hitting six sixes and six fours on route to a match winning 75 runs. He found Sam Hilton at 11 a brilliant running partner as Mayfield finished with a 50 odd last wicket stand.  241 all out.

In reply Jaedyn completed a good day personally with 35 up top with Kobe scoring 23. Chris Borsoi continued a battling response with a brilliant 54 not out.  However, it wasn’t to be as the Nomads came up 41 runs short.

Our Twos tough Division 2 campaign is up an running with their 1st points on the board which we should all be celebrating this week. Hopefully they can get a load more when Burgess Hill visit on Saturday.

Threes Need Something Fast!  Div 6 and T20 Trophy losses.

I am guessing that our positive and charismatic Threes skipper Fas would like to roll the clock back a week and start the season again.

On Saturday a strong looking team were slung in at home by Brighton. George, Muadh and Adam R moved the score to 53 for 3. However, the engine room failed to ignite, and it was left to youngsters George S 15 not out and Will H 23 not out to bring the score to 153 for 7.

George S got the Brighton opener out cheaply, but it seemed quite plain sailing for the visitors who chased down in just 34 overs for 4.  Nomads take 8 points

T20 Trophy Loss on Sunday v Lewes Priory

There isn’t a lot to say about this one so going to leave it with. Our Threes bow out of the Sussex T20 Trophy.

Our Threes will need to reenergise, regroup, and go again this Saturday as St Andrews Burgess Hill await. A win will give the squad a huge shot in the arm!

Well, there you have it.  Our Ones are flying but there is a lot of work to do in the other three teams. Have a great week on the training ground and let’s get ready for the next big adventure at Fulking, Worthing and Burgess Hill.
