Nomads Beat the Bensons, Twice!     Saturday 26th June 2022

Michael English Continues Stella Form for Threes.

It turned into a brilliant day for our One’s and Three’s with Sussex League wins and a bit of Benson bashing in the process.  However as reported on Sunday there was disappointment for the twos and as we hear from Andy G later our 4s are still operating at the wrong end of Div 8.

Frankie Cripps top scored for Brighton 1s at the SCMG with 29 runs.  However, that was scant consequence for the Nevill Road outfit as our Club Skipper Navin Patel made short work of his teammates.  In a devastating spell Nav took six for 41 off 14 overs as the visitors tamely folded for 85 all out.  In reply our solid openers, Dan P (37) and Nathan P (40 n.o.) showed the way in just 11 overs.  30 points thank you very much.  Brighton zip!

At the Nevill our Threes continued their incredible season with a fine win over Brighton 3s.  Skipper Faisal K and Imran Hafeez both took two wickets up top with Rehan Hafeez and Malorie Short both clearing out the tail. The hosts having the settle on 178 all out.  Just to note that our Threes extra’s saga continues despite Faisal’s determination to get it tidied up.  44 and top score, come on Threes !!!

Michael English is and has always been a top-class operator around the SCMG. A brilliant cricketer to have in your team. Season 2022 is turning into something rather special as opening runs are flowing thick and fast. On Saturday he turned the chase into a precession with a wonderful 73 off 85 balls.  The skipper himself weighed in with a nice 30 as Nomads cashed in with 30 points.  A win to glue their 2nd place in the division.

Our 4s will be very pleased to have scored over 200 runs at the SCMG against Portslade 2s. That man Mike Burney (88) again in the thick of it all.  However, it wasn’t enough as visitor’s opener Ellis Candy scored 83 as Slade posted a winning score of 234 for 7.   Our four’s need a lift as we go into week 9.

Many thanks to Nav, Faisal and Andy for their updates below.

Navs Narrative

Attitude was fantastic!

Right from the moment the guys started the warm up on Saturday I knew we were on and up for this fixture.
Everyone’s attitude was fantastic and we were all ready to be clinical and aggressive.
I won the toss and chose to field. All of our bowlers bowled tightly to their plans and with consistent pressure we were relentless and bowled Brighton out for 86.
Nathan and Dan continued out aggressive attitude in the run chase and chased the score down in 11 overs.
A thumping win and commanding performance from the lads.
Onto Bognor next week!

Faisal ‘Quality Win’

Quality win guys. Great great energy on the field today as always. B&H have recently beaten felbridge and dormansland who are also pushing for promotion, their team was up for the win today and were ready for a 3rd win.
We started of really well with my self and imran picking up 4 wickets within the first 10 overs. Our debutants today Rehan Hafiz and young Charlie Davies bowled really really well. ( REHAN) picking up 3 wickets in his first league match. Malorie Short bowled quality swing bowling with good rhythm picking up 3 wickets in her spell. C&B was the best 👌
Bowling the oppo all out for 178 was quite satisfying and we backed out selves with the chase as always
Michael English our clear MOTM today was impressive from the start and gave a great platform from the start and put a lot of pressure on the oppo. A great knock of 73.
The chase was well supported by young Charlie Davies and rudy Northcott ( PNCC future both of them no doubt)
A few wickets fell very quickly after Micheal departed leaving us 49 to get with 2 wickets in hand. My self and imran saw is home staying quite calm and playing balls on their credit

We Can Score 200 !   Andy G reports from the 4s game

With Captain Oliver away(hopefully having some batting coaching)it was left to the marvellous Vice Captain Danny Poynting VSOP Yorkshire T Regiment to cajole and muster a team to compete with Portslade 2’s.
And my did he!!!!
A mixture of youth( 4 under 14) Age (1 over 61, no names GW) 2 bearded hipsters, a hockey player, at least one teacher and a bloke from the West Country, joined Danny at a warm but breezy afternoon at SCMG.
Note 1. Jan was back so scones were back!

Danny put them into bat and young George was excellent from one end and Hicky was working hard from the other.
Note 2. Carlo was late(45 mins)……but took a great catch and actually dived full length through the air to stop a 4 so no fine.
Tate was keeping really well, stopping pretty much everything.
The fielding was tight and at Drinks 82 was about it.
Portslade are an experienced team and their opener then went on to get 80 with some big guys hitting hard shots and the second 20 overs were tough.
Jack in his first adult game bowled with good line and length.
Luke was his usual dependable self and Mike’Beardy’ Birney fooled them and us!!
Then the experience came on and Mr Watson bowled a wide(1st ball) variety, which harvested a couple of wickets.

Another youngster Zabi bowled with maturity.
Best bowling moment must be Not so tall George, bowling against Portslade’s 6ft 8inch (2m 6cm)batsman and telling us he was going to bowl at his feet as it was a very long way down!
He then pitched a beauty that not only hit the stumps but broke the bail, a proper David and Goliath moment.

We seemed to have bowled and fielded really well but somehow Portslade had accrued 234 for 7
2 for Hick
2 for Watto
1 for Burney
1 for Luke
1 for George
Tea glorious tea(thanks Jez and of course Jan).
Watto and Andrew opened and a steady start was had
Andrew went and the Bearded Burney began the big bash chase.
Watto went for a good 30
Tate looked good but was run out.
Carlos late arrival was matched by a quick departure!!!!!!!(don’t be late again).
BB smashed a fab 88 and then fell to a long hop!!!
Luke hit a great 37 not out and Danny put on a quick 15.
It wasn’t quite enough but we scored 204 and only lost 6 wickets.
We gave away 18 more extras than they did so it was a great effort by a really good team.
We can score 200+ so let’s push on from here and prove that we can perform.
Well done to the whole team
We move on to Bolney on Saturday where we know we can compete
