Middleton,Burgess Hill, Edenbridge and Plumpton up Next.
With weather interruptions (4 from 8 league games off) and a slow start to 2nd 3rd and 4th team cricket things look a little brighter this week-end with some sunshine around. However, its not a perfect forecast as the BBC does have some light showers heading across our patch on Saturday afternoon. Lets hope we can play all 4 games without any need to get those pesky covers on. Don’t forget I am still on the look out for that 1st league ton!!
Middleton CC travel to Fulking in the Prem 11.30 start
Our 1st team enjoyed a positive experience when beating EG and Middleton where plenty of players stepped up to the plate. Indeed we played Middleton in the ECB Cup where Mom Bertie scored an unbeaten half century to seal victory.
Middleton fielding first, played out a ‘frustrating’ rain affected League game against Hastings where Harry Finch belted 65 for Hastings and took two wickets. Hastings settled on 200 all out. Skipper Sean Heather lead the response with a half century as they chased a revised total of 163 in 34 overs.. In the end Hastings were worthy winners as Middleton perhaps should of and could of chased it down. They lost by 15 runs.
Sean, Harry Hovey and their man of the match Monty Morgan, 51 not out all, batted well in the ECB game but Nomads had all the answers!
Middleton will travel to the SCMG finding themselves at the wrong end of a blossoming Sussex premier league table determined to find some momentum, plus they will want a quick piece of revenge.
1st team skipper Dan P and his team will need to be very sharp and on their game but I would predict some post match singing in the home dressing room!
James leads Two’s to Burgess Hill St John’s Park 12 start
The Hillians have won one and lost one so far and currently sit 2nd in the Sussex Div 2. The win came against Billingshurst away last Saturday when a sharp performance in the field saw a quick end to the game. Whajid Shah (50) and Lewis Mamoany (58) lead Hill to 190. Then great figures of 6 overs 4 for 15 for Jas Bassan lead to a very comfortable 90 run away victory. Its with certainty they will be hungry for more against the Nomads.
Our twos had a frustrating wash out last Saturday but were in good form when losing to Mayfield 1st game out. Hopefully James can muster a little bit more from his team in Mid Sussex as you feel that any weaknesses will be exposed.
Its gonna be a tough one for the Nomads!
Thirds need to improve batting v Edenbridge South Square 1pm start Div 6
David and his 3rd team had Poynings at their mercy after the Skipper and George got three wickets a piece. The hosts were bowled out for 129. However, our experienced batting line up failed to take advantage as we gave up the points. George was our man of the match who did score a nice 47. (Mingles and Joey you are both in my fantasy team!)
Edenbridge travel to Fulking with three games played one win and two losses and 4 in the table. James King and Ben Phillips are their highest runs scores while James again Sean Mason have six wickets a piece.
We are bottom of Div 6 by some margin so need some quick win points on the board before things get a little uncomfortable. I back our experienced batters to turn it all around this Saturday.
Stephen and 4ths are at our friends, Plumpton 2s 1pm start Div 8
We have already covered a game from Plumpton this season, an excellent friendly in early May. As eluded to at the time it’s a tranquil setting for a game of cricket.
The hosts have lost one and had a game cancelled. The lost game was a very low scoring affair against Copthorn where nails would of been bitten! Copthorn elected to bat but only scored 98 all out. Plumpton would of been kicking themselves as they fell just three runs short. Andrew Petty the stand out Plumpton player 3 for 24 off 8 overs.
I send best regards to skipper Stephen and his team and messages of good luck. You feel that one or two big scores could be enough to settle this one.
Well there you have it. The main feed will be coming from my home town where I will be able to saunter to St Johns with provision and watch the action unfold. Just to note for the 2s there is a brand new outlet ‘Kiosk on the Park’ as part of the club house. You can get hot drinks, waffle sticks ?? ice cream and light confectionery!
Good luck to all our players and hopefully we can start to report on Nomad wins and that 1st league ton. Please keep tuned to the group whattsapp site and twitter during the day.
