Weekend Round Up

Plus, Bowmans new League Extra’s Watch

There must have been a few racing Nomad heartbeats at 3.45 yesterday as minnows Bolney were on the verge of a goliath type of Sussex Cup T20 result at their quaint but wonderful home facility complete with well on site.  However, Mani sorted it all out.

We lead with our two Sunday Sussex T20 1st round Cup games where both our 1s and 2s find themselves in the same competition. And remember the final is held at Hove later in the season.  James McKemey (twos skipper) would have been purring over two performances from Nomad legends up top as his team breezed into the 2nd round against Ansty at the SCMG.  The bowlers will rightly get all the plaudits for their excellent work in keeping Ansty to a modest total of 93.  But for me and I wasn’t there, it must have been a real joy to witness Ollie and Jeremy calmly bat out the win not out.  The twos progress!

It wasn’t such plain sailing at an energetic and cauldron like Bolney who seemed determined to hustle us out of the comp. The script was read for an hour as Bolney toiled against a strong attack as wickets fell.  However, Dom Shepheard 40 and Rachad Forde (39) put the after burners on and took the score to a rather competitive 129.  There was pandemonium ensuring inside the tiny home ground as J, Zach Jonty all fell very quickly.  All eyes fell on Mani who was the next fresh meat.  However, he calmly got the job done and finished on a man of the match score of 38 not out. The skipper nailed a quick 27 as the Nomads avoided what might have been a huge banana skin.

Bowman says  ‘Boys I really hope you sung the song as Bolney would have deserved it!

Saturday 14th May

As alluded to our 1st team have gotten off to the perfect start so we begin our League round up with Faisal and our threes at home to St As of Burgess Hill

Report from the Skipper!

What a win today guys, absolutely buzzing.
Loosing the toss and been put into bat was never going to be easy and with 30/4 after 18 overs was looking very dull, but then Chris Baker (71) and Charlie Davies (43) got together dug deep and gave us a 100+ partnership ( well batted Chris and Charlie 💪🏽)
Not to forget Taylor coxs huge couple of 6s that got us to 185.
Our first 20 overs didn’t really go our way as we gave a lot of extras and they were 90/1. But my my my how the tables turned in the second 20 as we bowled them out for 177.
Guys it’s was a total team effort with even when they were 90/1 we didn’t loose the energy and our voices were on top of each other. What made the difference was that we backed each other till the end. Excellent second spell by Asad Khan, jonah got us the first 2 very important wickets, Charlie Davies not only batted well but also bowled like a champion, sir Jamie Patrick with the wicket to wicket second spell chocked them even more. Not to forget the deep boundary catches by raffi and Chris Baker and the run out by Adam Rowland. Shishir was very enthusiastic on the field. Micheal English Excellent behind the stumps again mate, I’m sure ur hips will be sore tomorrow after all the diving
All in all guys it was a total team effort and the energy you guys bought to the table was off the roof
BIG AND STRONG NOMAD

Twos Open Div 3 with a home loss v Rottingdean

Talking of Nomad Legends Robert Wakeford took the eye as he scored a brilliant 58 on the north square. He found company with Chris Borsoi 40 and Stuart Faith 33 as the team settled on 185 for 8 off the 45 overs.  It looked a good score at the break.

But Rottingdean have always been competitive buggers and they sensed victory as Mustaq Islam (51) and Sean Campleman (64 no) saw them over the line just 3 down.

It was a bit of a wake-up call for James and his crew who will need to get firing with the ball pretty quickly.

Fours battered at Lewes Priory (played at Firle)

There wasn’t much to celebrate amongst our 4th team squad so I won’t delve into this one much further. Suffice to say there will be better days to come!

Bowman’s Extra’s Watch

This isn’t new news!  For a few seasons now I have written the words ‘to many extra’s’ a lot against Nomad reports. It’s been very frustrating!   So, this season all four teams will be competing to see who can give the least amount of League extras away through the season.  Remember cricket is hard enough already without giving runs away. So please take pride in not giving any away and take that in the back of your minds as you go out to field.

Week One.

1st Team   19

2nd Team   23

3rd Team   39

4th Team    12   (but only bowled 13 overs)

Congrats to the 4th team for an artificial win this week. But to be honest every team need to work on this. I would be expecting under ten a game!

Well, there you have it.  A brilliant weekend in the end with four out of six victory’s in the ledger.  Some great performances but Mani receives the closing accolades after he gets us out of a hole!

Enjoy your week.
