Dan Phillips and his 1st team squad are currently in imperious form in the Sussex Premier League. We are picking up victories at will which means that we adapt well to any given situation and seem very calm under pressure. Last Saturday at Middleton our boys were ‘a little’ under the pump when the score fell to 49 for 6. However skipper Dan showed all his cricket prowess and skill sets to get the Nomads back on track. His 65 off 128 balls was a knock of maturity and responsibility. However, it was our New Zealand strike bowler Navin Patel who really shone with a brutal knock of 99 including 13 fours and two sixes. His intervention took the score to 205 all out off 51 overs.

In reply our spin sensation, Will Collard took an instant liking to the Middleton track as he took out the dangerous Monty Morgan. Will went on to wonderful figures of 7 for just 22 runs off 11 overs as the hosts hosts dissolved for just 100.

A win that took the Nomads 35 points clear at the top of the table.

1st Team entertain Hastings North Square 11.30am Sussex Prem 110 overs . Top v Bottom

With just one win to their name Hastings make the trip west in the relegation zone and facing demons of four straight losses. Looking at their scores it does appear they are struggling for wickets. On 17th July they made a commanding score of 263 off 58 overs, Dilshan Zoysa scoring a nice ton and Tom Gillespie 57. However Middleton just picked that score only three down. Last week Bridges strolled to 232 for 5 as the Hastings batting crumbled to 128 all out.

With their danger man, Harry Finch possibly on Kent County duties our visitors might look an easy assignment. However, as we all known a team which is fighting for its Sussex Prem life could be very dangerous. Hastings are a proud club with proud traditions and they will be desperately trying to avoid relegation at all costs.

However, if the Nomads continue with their hard work, application and cricket skills I back Dan and his troops to be singing come 6pm and putting further credence to their Sussex Premier League credentials.

2nd Team lose against Burgess Hill and travel to Bognor on Saturday Sussex Div 2 12.30 start 100 overs.

Our 2nd team under the expert guidance of James McKemey played out an excellent performance against Burgess Hill last week but it wasn’t enough to stave off defeat at the SCMG. Kamran Mirza 58 and Hashim Riaz 30 got the Nomads off to a great start. Alex Hunt 23 and Zayn Khan 22 not out played their part in a good score of 175 all out.

Unfortunately the BH middle order got them over the line with Kevin Ramsey 59 not out.

As this column has eluded to our proud position in the Sussex Div two is under some threat. We are currently 7th of 10 but points difference is very slender indeed.

That said we have huge opportunity on Saturday when the squad make the exciting trip west to Bognor Regis for a 12.30 start for a 100 over match. Regis have been the surprise package this season currently sitting in 2nd place above pre season favs Horsham and Mayfield. Over the past two weekends they have been in devastating form beating Billingshurst and Horsham. Joe Ashmore and Mike Harris both took 4 wickets against Billingshurst and then Mike Harris 74 and Ryan Maskell 64 not out won it against Horsham.

On more positive note Bognor did receive a bloody nose on 10th July at home when BH bowled them out for just 115!

Third Team bowled for 116 at Edenbridge but look to bounce back v Dormansland South Square 1pm 40 overs each Sussex Div 6

George Close Brooks (52) served up another great inns for the 3rd team at Edenbridge but what followed was a bit of a horror show for David S and his 3rd team. Its a game to quickly side line and forget!

After 12 games in Sussex Division 6 and just 131 points its getting close to where victories will be needed to haul our 3rd team off the foot of the table. There is another huge chance to take advantage of home soil as Dormansland come sweeping into town. Up until early July our visitors had been struggling but with a flick of a switch they seem to have become world beaters. Three wins in July was topped with carnage at home last week when David Williams 137 and Richard Dodgson 100 not out fired Land to 355 off the 40 over.

With around 6 matches to go our 3rd team have got to find at least a couple of victories to keep them off the trap door. Lets hope we get the first of these on Saturday.

4th team flying and travel to Copthorne on Saturday Sussex div 6 1pm start 40 overs each

Our 4th team are flying and hopefully you all read the skipper’s tale of a win against Plumpton on the whattsapp group chat. Mike Burney and Carter Carey Pointing both took three wickets as Plumpton crumpled to 112 all out. Both players then went on to 30 runs in a very comfortable chase on the South Square.

On Saturday the squad will be chasing a third straight win as they travel to Copthorne for a 1pm start (40 overs each) Our hosts might be a little ring rusty after their bye week on 24th. Previous to that they were skittled at Streat for 51 and couldn’t chase 156 against Cowden the week previous. They have 3 wins to their name and currently sit 7th of 10 with 178 points.

Our 4th team are now firing on all cylinders and it seems as though skipper Stephen Oliver is getting a fine turn out of his squad of excellent experienced cricketers and exuberant youth. I back them to to go to Copthorne and come back with yet another 30 point haul.

Well there you have it. Many thanks to my fantasy players Dan Mike and skipper George for your contributions this week. Cobo Media squad have moved off the foot of the table wehayyyyy! We move onto an exciting Saturday for our four Senior teams where its getting very interesting and absorbing as to the league tables. For all sorts of reasons securing our 1st clean sweep of the season would certainly bring about some huge celebration. The main media feed will be coming from the Regis Oval where hopefully the 2s can secure a much needed victory. Stay tuned to the club twitter and whatsapp channels for scores updates news, and the gossip from 10am.

Lets get to it Nomads!
