Kobe and Jaedyn hit Clean in Double Ton Opening Dib

There is going to be a new inference for our 2s going into the 2nd half of the season after a crushing victory in East Sussex. More of that later!

Under beautiful blue skies and pleasing summer solstice temperatures our 2s gathered at Sussex cricket powerhouse Eastbourne CC for their latest Division 2 adventure. There was a great spirit in the squad as a competitive football match broke out.  With your press officer in goal the skippers team lost two one with the last kick (my fault of course!!!).  Just moments later James was out in the middle winning the toss, slinging them in.

Felix Mansour 7 overs 1 for 11 got his team off to a flyer as Bartosh Short leap right at slip to take a worldy.  Eastbourne nought for 1 (see catch on wattsapp).  The Saffrons then fell silent (not for the last time) as Zidane ripped to Mark Tomsett and James clung on (at the 2nd grab).  The hosts struggling on 19 for 2.

Jacques Wilson bowled a good spell for his team and took the dangerous Harrison Tag for just 17 runs.  Gatts with a neat catch.  Eastbourne 53 for 3 at that stage.  However, my tip of the day opener Jacob Smith was becoming a thorn in the side with a patient knock.  He went about his innings in a business like and professional manner building confidence around the Saffrons.  He found an excellent partner in Matthew Pope who also frustrated the Nomad attack with some very steady batting. They built a nice 80 run partnership before the opener departed on 88 solid runs.  While wickets fell around him Pope found his rhythm to smash to all parts scoring 3 sixes on the way to 100 not out off the last ball of an entertaining 53 overs.

Eastbourne came to rest on a very competitive 247 for 8.  Leaving the Nomads a little ‘frustrated and a tad annoyed’ at the break.

A very nice tea served.  Thank you Eastbourne!

What happened next was a thing of beaty!

Kobe 123 in 59 and Jaedyn 82 in 100 strode out to bat and didn’t come back for 90 minutes.  They produced a batting master class that everyone at the Saffrons was privileged to watch.  A volley of shots that not only sent balls to the boundary but with that ‘sound’ (when you know you know).  Take a peek on wattsapp for many examples of balls going in the football ground and croquet pitch.

An opening partnership of 209 will win you most games at any level any format.   Ammad and Muadh went on to put Eastbourne out of their misery as Nomads celebrated.

30 points Nomads and we sung the victory song Eastbourne 11

James said after (see wattsapp for full interview) ‘firstly thanks to Zuni and Rosy for scoring today great job done. I am thrilled!  For our 2nd team to get a result against their 1st team is superb.  In the field I was disappointed to have let them get back into it I was thinking we might have thrown that away. But J and Kobe demonstrated clean hitting with Jaedyn getting off to t flyer. He was 40 after 4 or 5 overs!  He added ‘I think we can beat anyone in this league and that’s the mindset of this group!’

We also caught up with J and Kobe (see on watssapp).  A great interview, a lot of fun and laughter plus a tub of hummus and a carrot.  Make sure you catch it.

Bowman said ‘Firstly huge thanks to Eastbourne cc for hosting. You guys are a powerhouse of Sussex cricket, and it won’t be long before you are back gracing the Premier League.  Especially with the likes of Jacob and Matthew in the team. It was a real pleasure to visit the Saffrons and good luck with the rest of the season.

Now getting back to the 1st line. I have been guilty of making excuses about this league being tough for our twos.  That stops right now!  With two brilliant victories we have proved we are a match for anyone in this league and I challenge you all to climb that league table. I am backing you!’

My joint player of season 2023 J was amazing but MOM goes to Kobe who scored seven maximums on route to a match winning 123 off just 59 balls.

Next week the team are at home to bottom of the table Rottingdean and I will remind the boys of that early season T20 result.  We have a score to settle!!!!

Lets Go Twos.
