James Faces 2s Selection Headaches ahead of League Action!

Our 2nd skipper and club legend, James McKemey has some tough and exciting decisions to make ahead of our Sussex Div 3 East opener against Portslade away on 7th May.  A season where we look for our twos to secure promotion.

At sunny Fulking yesterday the squad completed their preseason with a loss against Reigate Priory Twos on the south square.  George Close Brooks set out his 2s ambition with a nice 30 runs as opener and then Najiyah scored 38 off 67 deliveries.  At the back end of the inns Ombaashi 14 no and Adam I 11 no calmly obeyed the skippers instructions to see out the remaining overs.  Nomads completed with 151 for 7.

On the south ground against an experienced side that total was never going to be enough as David Gent, Fraser McGuinness and Antony Ireland all went on to score half centuries.  Priory ran our ready winners in the 33rd over just two down. Thanks to Zuni for scoring in the scorebox.

James said later ‘there was a gulf out there today but it wasn’t all doom and gloom.  George and Najiyah batted well then Ombaashi and Adam saw out the inns which was very pleasing.  I feel concerned that we lack penetration with the ball which is something we shall need to address.  Going forward it would be great to have the likes of Stuart F, Aaron and Owen in the twos every week. We also have some very talented youngsters coming through which we need to consider.  Even with the ‘gloves’ we have talent coming through, do I play as a fielder ???’

James if you are reading good luck with your deliberations over the coming days.  I am sure you will come up with the perfect balance as we head to that important 1st game of the season. (A game that I will be covering for the club)
