Huge Day Coming Up In the Heat. We Go Into the Business End of 2021!

Published On: August 18, 2021Categories: News and Reports

Its looking likely that our four massive Senior level League matches on Saturday 21st August are going to be played in some glorious weather with sun mainly in charge and very warm temperatures. Hopefully we can turn the Nomads vibe into some kind of wild cricket celebrations and take our 1st clean sweep of 2021. For all sorts of reasons 120 points across the board would send a huge shot in our collective arm!

Dan Phillips Leads out 1st Team on North Square as HH travel South. Sussex Prem 11.30 start 50 overs each

Newly promoted Haywards Heath have been doing all they can to keep their place in the Sussex Prem and its nearly working. Our visitors might be in the relegation zone they will be looking for any opportunities to haul themselves out of danger. With 4 wins to their name its clear they are going to be competitive both at Claire Park and on the road.

Jonny Phelps 374 and Shelton Forbes 290 are the leading run makers with Phelps (27 wickets) and Ollie Bailey (19) doing the damage with the ball. Last Saturday was a day to forget as Hastings ‘rolled’ them for just 94. That was never enough.

The corresponding fixture earlier in the season was a thrilling match where Nav delivered an unplayable spell of quick bowling. Jake batted very well as Nomads went on to an important victory.

Whilst Haywards Heath will be looking at every angle and be competitive I have to back our firing 1st team to dominate this one and take yet another victory to go further clear at the top

Its Make or Break for the Two’s at Roffey. Sussex Div 2 12.30 start 45 overs each.

This column has been suggesting all summer that keeping our 2nd team in this division would be our proudest achievement of 2021. Its a division of big town 1st teams and as it has transpires the cricket has been of a very high standard indeed. However its a real tribute to the dedication skill and persistence of Twos Skipper James McKemey and his squad that with three games to go we are still in with a chance of staving off relegation. We are currently 2nd to bottom.

As the title suggest’s Saturday’s away game holds a massive key to survival against bottom club Roffey. Our hosts have won just one match this season and current have 132 points. That win came on 8th May when beating Chi after chasing down 228. Since then it has been a punishing series of heavy losses or washed out games. Chris Webb 394 and Alex Southon 165 have been the highest run scorers while wickets have been shared around. Tom Barnes,Lewis Shivnarain and Fred Bridges all with 10 wickets.

In this must win game it’s time for our Twos Top order to settle in for the long haul, Get greedy and try to carry your bat across the winning line. If one of the openers is still there at 30 overs, irrespective of his score, we should be going on to collect 30 points.

I am backing you all the way!

Three’s Host St Andrews on South Square Sussex div 6 1pm start 40 overs.

With three matches still to go our skipper David Symes and his Third team, with 156 points, still hold a glimmer of hope of retaining their Division Six status. It will take a herculean late season effort and it all starts on Saturday against a very good St Andrews side.

Our visitors are in the mix for a promotion spot with 8 wins on the board and 308 points. Last weekend they proved to strong for Ifield and easily chased 144. On 24th July they beat Ditchling in a high scoring game. Ollie Brookes 326 and Michael 215 have scored the runs while Shaun Nichols has been dominating with the ball on 23 wickets. He took 6 for 16 against rivals Burgess Hill.

There is no getting away from the fact that this game is going to be very tough for our Three’s. However I am backing David and his team to pull off their 2nd win of the season.

4s Face Exciting Day at Streat Sussex Div 8 1pm start 40 overs each

Our 4th team, under the expert guidance of Skipper Stephen Oliver, are going very well this season with no less than six wins on the board. A brilliant mix of youth and experienced cricketers have gelled this season to produce some scintillating cricket and a volley of very close games.

They travel east to Streat for a 1pm start. A beautiful ground set under the South Downs. Its certainly a wonderful place to spend the afternoon especially when the sun is shining. Our hosts are comfortably mid table with 4 wins on the board. Dominic Fifield 315 and Richard Gill 188 have been the highest run scorers while club legend David Christmas has 17 wickets Matthew Porter has 15.

Our 4s to again play some spellbinding cricket to pick up another win.

We there you have it. Four massive games coming up. A clean sweep come 7pm would be amazing.

The main media feed will be coming from Roffey and our 2nd team. Please follow on the usual channels for updates, clips and gossip from mid morning.

Good luck to all connections!
