Have ‘Faith’! Let’s Round up Saturday. 27/06/2027
Stuart Faith 18 no off 67 in Roffey Draw. Premier Div
Several of our Premier League oppo’s will be raising a glass to the Nomads and Stuart in particular after we halt Roffey’s blemish free season. It’s given the likes of Bridges and Middleton some breathing room at the summit. However here in Fulking the euphoria of hanging in for a soft draw was soon replaced with renewed questions to be answered. Nomads are 5th in the table with just one win in June.
Matt Davies did all the early damage as he opened with a fine knock of 116 off 147 balls. Fred Price at three also muscled in with 92 off 97 balls as Roffey went to 191 for 2. Lachlan completed the damage with a strike rate 126 half century. Zayn personally had a great afternoon taking 5 for 53 off 12. Well done to him. AOB, Nick and Danny all taking a bit of tap down the bowling order.
Facing a daunting total of 320 our top order had yet another day to forget quickly going to 116 for 5 off 23 overs. Archie is our 2026 star huge congrats to him on yet another big score here at the Nomads. It’s a broken record but he won’t be happy until we are winning cricket matches.
With Roffey circling like sharks hunting down the now familiar win up steps a Nomad legend. And say’s ‘Not Today!!!!’ Faith then used all his guile, experience and competitive edge to frustrate and hang in there for 67 balls.
A disappointed and frustrated club Captain told me this morning. ‘We were poor Cobo, very soft dismissals again. Faithy saved us from losing’ He went on ‘The key is lack of partnerships with both ball and bat. Once we start applying pressure from both ends for consistent periods of time with the ball we will create chances and pick up wickets. And with the bat it comes down to application and being prepared to fight long, hard and string together big partnerships. Too often we lose wickets at key moments in the game and release any momentum back to the opposition. Partnerships are the key !!’
From me ‘huge congrats to Stu for keeping it real yesterday. I love the mantra if you can’t win it don’t lose it. But we are the Nomads and drawing a league match at home isn’t really in our psyche, tradition or history. We should be on the front foot going all out for the marquee W.
There are ten matches left and there is no reason we can’t go ahead and now make a real challenge for that Sussex League title. We win say 8 including Roffey away then we are in the hunt. I challenge us to go make 300 at Hastings on Saturday.
Have Faith!!!
Threes look after that extra’s column and Hey Presto! Div 6
Our Threes were in party mode last evening as they took out a very exciting Div 6 win against top of league Lindfield. I feel I take some credit after elongated ‘tough love’ extra’s comments. The last two weeks have been heartbreak but in truth 54 extra’s (against Hurst) were always going to spoil any kind of momentum. It was just 14 yesterday which allowed the team to flourish and demonstrate their true class. Huge congrats to Faisal and the boys.
Having been inserted on the south William and Sameer got off to a great start 33 without. George (19) continues with his getting a start and out. (it’s there for you mate just go grab it!). The real oomph came from Skipper Khan who whacked four sixes and seven fours on route to 74 while his partner Adam scored a very quick 45 off just 29 balls. Threes scored 219 for 8 off the 40.
Matthew Wood’s inns of 90 would have wrecked Nomads last week but with us making Lindfield earn every run pressure built at the other end. Theo took wickets up top and as Lindfield looked dangerous our brilliant youngster William Dale took three for 27 to dent Lindfield promotion charge 194 all out.
Our Three’s clearly have talent, experience and youth rippling through their squad and if they can maintain 7% extra’s then they could go mount a serious promotion charge themselves.
2s Batting Needs to Improve. It’s a bad loss at Ifield Div 2
That early season Two’s shove up the league has somewhat dissipated over the past three weeks as in truth batting hasn’t been up to standard. As discussed before our Two’s environment is the envy of Sussex Cricket League as we are the only 2nd team operating at level. It’s something the club takes very seriously, and we are very proud to be able to offer our membership such a high level of cricket week in week out. We quickly need to find a route towards 300 runs batting first and being able to chase a high number.
However, 143 for 9 off 53 overs is never going to get it done and the 7 measly points have put us into 6th place with 132 points. Please note that 3rd from bottom brings about a dodgy end of season relegation play off. Trust me we don’t want to be anywhere near that!
Well, that’s that for another weekend here at the SCMG. Work to do!
