Four’s Close to 2026 Break Out Win. But Nurse loss at St Andrews (BHill) 27/06/26

Nandu and Danny had good Days.

Its turning into a very disappointing season for Malorie and all 4s connections as they try to cling on to Division 7 safety.  After glorious back-to-back promotions the team are in no mood to surrender that positive momentum at the 1st attempt.  However, as we move into hi summer here in Sussex games seem to be evaporating fast and now our 4s will need to get motoring very quickly.  With ten matches to go they are 40 points adrift of 8th place Felbridge. However, there are positive signs that team are fighting hard and they have a very experienced set of players to call upon.

In football terms they could do with a scrappy one nil win with a last min own goal.

Under cloud cover with hot and sweltering conditions Mal was delighted to have won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good St As pitch.  Veteran Luke S hit two beautiful cover drives before bowled for 17.  Under 15s star Harry Scrase can count himself a little unlucky. Yes, he top edged but Sudhakaran somehow clung on running and off balance.  A stunning catch at this level. Walid 36 and Sam Sowerby 33 kept the middle order engine room ticking over nicely with a 50 partnership.  But it was Nandu Reddy who added the required grunt needed at the back end.  He hit two sixes on route to a quick 34.  The skipper will be pleased with tremendous back-to-back drives as the team rested on 200 all out.  Nichols the pick 3 for 30.

With DJ Cole and I cheering from the sidelines Nomads got off to an explosive start.  It seemed fitting that Harry returned the favour to catch the opener with a stunner on the ropes.  It was our champagne moment!  Danny Poynting then turned the screw with three quick wickets as the hosts suddenly found things tough 142 for 6.  However, St As aren’t top of the league by fluke.  They found a way. It wasn’t pretty but Davies 42 not out and Charlton 24 not out doggedly saw them home to 30 welcome points Nomads 13.

The post-match team huddle was a mixture a looking in mirrors and addressing issues but there was also a lot of positivity.  Mal said later ‘We needed 240 out here today so with the bat we couldn’t quite grind it out. Then in the field I feel that players aren’t where they need to be, so it feels I need to keep telling them.  We need to take accountability.  But we are not far away!’

If its any consolation I had a good chat with the Hosts Keeper Michael who said ‘you guys have given us our best game of the season. We have been winning games in 20 overs, but Nomads made us work hard for that one’  He even wished us good luck for the season.  On that note thanks to St As for hosting and congratulations.  You guys look the business and should now go on and secure promotion.

4s are back at home on Saturday against Horsted Keynes.  Perhaps that scrappy one niller is on the cards!
