Blast OFF ! Season 2021 Kicks off with T20 Cup Action.
The grind of picking up League Points can wait another week (8th May) for our 4 teams while we settle in for a pulsating afternoon of Sussex T20 Cup action on 1st May 2021. Its a format of the sport that our players seem to revel in where big hitting, accurate bowling and world class catching are the order of the day. Ultimately its cricket in its swiftest mode where nerves can be quickly shredded and results turn on a sixpence. When you add the concept of Cup cricket and traveling to the Nevill and Worthing we in in for an exciting ride.
Can Nomads hold their nerve and progress through this exciting and important day?
Sussex Cricket League T20 Cup 2021
64 teams from around Sussex will start the competition and by 7pm on Saturday 1st May only 16 will remain. Both our 1st team and 2nd team are in opposing halves of the draw so in theory if they keep winning they could meet in the show case final on Sunday 29th August 2021. Apologies for getting ahead of myself, lets concentrate on the here and now.
1st Team Skipper, Dan Phillips faces a very tough opening examination as they take on Brighton CC at the Nevill 3.30pm start. Its virtually impossible to make any predictions on team selections for both sides. However one thing is for certain is that after two excellent preseason results we will be making the short trip over the South Downs in confident mood.
Our 2nd team, under the guidance of captain James McKemey, make a trip to the Manor Ground Worthing for a mid day start against the hosts. If they win that game it will be a very quick turnaround as Middleton CC will be waiting in the wings at 3.30pm on the same ground. After an excellent win against Three Bridges James will be looking to his batters to make full use of all the overs allotted.
Sussex Cricket League T20 Plate 2021
Our 4th team have yet to hit a ball in anger this term but that is all about to change as they enter the T20 scrum at the SCMG, South Square. New 4ths captain and swash buckling batsman, Stephen Oliver will be looking forward to leading his team out.
The action starts at mid day against Hurstpierpoint CC 2nd team and if we win that we then step out again against St Peters CC 4s at 3.30 ish.
In other news, our 3rd team under the guidance of skipper David Symes start their T20 Cup adventure later in the season. Following a very positive performance against Ditchling last Saturday the team are again in friendly action against Felbridge at Chartham Grounds from 1pm. Felbridge will offer a very competitive edge. The game will afford David another chance to think about strategy and personnel as the countdown to League action ticks by.
Your media team will be all over it with the main focus on the Manor Ground Worthing where the Press Officer hopes to spend the rest of the afternoon. If that doesn’t happen he will make the quick dart to the Nevill. Media channels will be operating differently this week-end but please stay tuned after the Bank Holiday for results, reaction and gossip.
Good Luck to all our Teams!
