Big day on Saturday, Super Busy on Sunday !

Here’s your weekend preview.  21st and 22nd May.

That ECB Cup rain delay last Sunday against Wimbledon had certainly put pressure on this weekend’s Sunday itinerary however after careful consideration by the skippers and expertise from the Match Secretary the Nomads have come up with solutions!

Saturday 21st May

1st Team Entertain Horsham   SCMG  11.30am   Sussex Premier League  50 overs

Skipper Navin Patel will be looking for a quick return to winning ways after that narrow loss at Three Bridges.  However, they face a Horsham team who will be buzzing after a monster victory against Middleton last time out.  Tom Johnson scored 80 up top with Will Beer smashing 139 off 136 deliveries at three.  Skipper Nick Oxley then put on 43 as the team went to 299 for 6.  Beer, the pick of the bowlers, then picked up three for 21 and Oxley two for 9 as Middleton collapsed 117 all out.

Even though there is a long way to go in the season this match is going to be a stern test of our early season credentials.

It’s the Salts for 2s     Rye away  Sussex Div 3   12.30  start   45 overs.

James and his squad make the longest trip of the season when they go to Rye Cc at the Salts.   Our team will be in good spirits after an excellent batting display won the game against Crawley Eagles. However, they face a squad who will be in fine fettle after a brilliant start to the season.  It’s all  about batting with these guys!  On 7th  Harry Smeed 86 and Luke Payton 99 not out took the game away from Buxted. Then on 14th they chased down 321 at the ‘other’ Salts Seaford.  Luke Payton 100 not out off 50 balls with Carl Mumba 60 not out off 30 balls.

Let’s hope that Rye mid order batting bubble bursts on Saturday.

Threes Host Horsted Keynes  Sussex Div 7   1pm   40 overs

Returning Skipper Faisal will be looking for a response after his team lost at Palmers last weekend.  They face a team who might be low on confidence after two straight losses and 2nd to bottom in the league.  At Felbridge on 7th Keynes let the hosts get 344 (Will James 200!) before slumping 88 all out.  Then last week a reasonable batting display saw them get 210 at home to Brighton 3s with runs shared around.  However, Brighton clung on to victory eight down.

It’s a huge opportunity for our Threes to send out a marker!

4s travel to Smallfield Manor   Sussex Div 8   1pm  40 Overs

Our 4th team make a trip north to Smallfield which is just sorta in line with the M23 just east of Horley.   They have started well with three straight wins to their name.  Akash Gupta took 5 for 12 against St Matthias.  Wickets were shared in a win against Portslade. Last week Manor showed their batting qualities with Kanaseelan Jegan scoring a ton and Diskorin Rathinam 57 when chasing 247 at Bolney to win.

Our 4s seem to have it all to do against a side who appear to have all the bases covered.

Hopefully all our teams can come out fighting and secure that first winning clean sweep of the season.

Sunday 22nd May   Busy Day.

1st Team in rearranged ECB Cup action against Wimbledon.  1pm  40 overs each

Last Sunday rain continually cascaded on the SCMG so there was no surprise that the Umpires called the ECB game off.  The highlight of a frustration occasion was a wonderful Jan Smith tea!

Last weeks preview gave all the low down on our visitors so please take a peek at that.  Safe to say Wimbledon are looking strong this season.

The weather looks set fair this time around.  Its time for the Nomads to make an ECB stand.

3s at St Peters  Sussex T20 Plate   2pm start.

Our 3s travel to St Peters in the 2nd round of the Plate.

1st Ladies Game v St Andrews  2pm  SCMG South Square

We come to a key moment in our history with our first Ladies cricket match.  We send huge messages of good luck to all connections and hope you have a great time.

U15s v  Lingfield  ECB Cup  5pm start.

Our Under 15s are last to take the SCMG stage  when they host Lingfield in this important Cup.

Good luck to all connections on what looks to be a tough set of examinations to come.

Yours’s truly has been battling with a positive covid test and symptoms over the past few days so my week end plans are very much up in the air.  Will keep you posted but I think it will be a bonus to get to any of the games this weekend.
