Our decision not to employ the services of an Overseas this season seems to be paying huge dividends right now as our Ones, under the charismatic skipper Navin Patel, pick up a wonderful Sussex Premier League win at notoriously difficult Middleton.  We have a plethora of wonderful talent both existing or new to delve into. One such import has been the inclusion of T20 County Player Archie Lenham.  He introduced himself on Saturday with a brilliant all-round performance.

The hosts decided to have a bat in brilliant seaside conditions at that beautiful Sports Club. Sunny overhead conditions aiding that decision. Danny I and the Captain got amongst the top order Middleton falling to 63 for 3. Josh Wood and James Barker then set about reigniting a faltering innings. Josh made a quick 69 before getting caught. Lenham then got involved and ripped out the middle order. His 10 overs 4 for 51 turned 132 for 4 to 191 all out off 46 overs.  The skipper will be cock a hoop with 2 for 21 and picking up three catches on the afternoon.

At 32 for 2 the Nomads looked slightly fazed however our two young Sussex CCC stars Danny  Ibrahim 63 and Archie 77 calmly took the game away from Middleton.  In only the 36th over 30 points were heading towards Fulking and one would suggest send some shivers down the Sussex Premier League family.

We caught up with Nav today who said ‘First match of the league season always proves to be a pivotal fixture and for the 1s this was away against Middleton, a team who we failed to beat in 2023!
The boys turned up excited and determined.
I lost the toss and we were in the field. All the boys had a good buzz and intensity and we played as a unit. To bowl Middleton out at home for 191 was a pleasing effort and proud of our efforts first up in the season. Archie Lenham had a fantastic start to his nomads career picking up 4 wickets bowling intelligently on a flat wicket and small ground.
With the bat the message was to show application and be there at the end.
Our two young pros, Danny Ibs and Archie lived by this and provided the template for the season. Soaking up pressure and then cashing in on scoring opportunities. We chased down the target in 36 overs only 4 wickets down.
A great start to the season, picking up 30 points. Onto Three Bridges next week for a top of the table clash!

Twos Have it All To Do!   Div 2

The Spring Newsletter had Skipper James M saying ‘As we enter my final year of my reign as captain, we face a stiff test in Div 2 as the highest ranked 2nd XI in the Sussex League’

Our experienced and competitive wicket keeper legend James McKemey will have known more than most that season 2024 will prove to be very tough for his squad.  Mayfield, St James, Haywards Heath, Rottingdean, West Chilts, Burgess Hill, Buxted Eastbourne  and yesterday Ifield ones yes ones all stand in the way.

They began on the North Square on Saturday and were inserted.  Things started badly with a run out of kiwi Jaedyn for 1 and Baalaaj getting caught for 1.  Rudy Northcott scored an outstanding 25 not out but 72 all out was never going to enough with Ifield chasing down with ease.

Boys, if you are reading, I think its time just to breath, have a good week on the training ground, forget Ifield ever happened and get ready to hit Mayfield away very hard!!   I know you can do it.  Cobo x

Well, we move into week two with some excellent signs around the SCMG.  Two wins from four is an acceptable return but I am sure you all want more!  Let’s all get on get on it this week and prepare for Three Bridges, Mayfield,Brighton and St James. A clean sweep and me giving out that bottle of whiskey must be the objective for 18th May 2024 (weather permitting of course!)

Cobo 13/5/2024

Ps You might have heard that Bromley cc gave us the ECB match on Sunday for some reason. That mean’s we now host Three Bridges, who thanks to a 5 wicket haul for Rowan Naude beat Reigate, on Sunday 26th May 2024 1pm start. This is a very exciting opportunity for the club to progress to the area final so please make sure you are all available to play. Let’s give Nav a selection headache!!
