1st Outdoor Nets at the SCMG, Done!

Published On: April 3, 2021Categories: News and Reports

It was a fantastic sight last Thursday evening when 40 odd Nomads where being put through their paces on the beautiful South Square and in our wonderful out door nets 5.30pm through 8pm. Even a chilly north east wind across the ground couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm. There was batting, bowling and punishing hi intensity fielding drills in place. Being the opener it was not surprising that some were ‘blowing’ a bit, Louis looking at you here!

We caught up with 1st team skipper Dan Phillips who was looking very well. He said ‘ I am really well thanks Colin and its really lovely to see so many here at training tonight’ On to the immediate future he ventured ‘ we are really looking forward to our opening friendly match against Weybridge from Surrey (SCMG12.30pm 17th April 2021). We wanted to play a new team who might operate in a different way to what we are used to. Its going to be a challenge but it could prepare us well for the 2021 ECB Cup. Having spoken with Weybridge they were very happy to make the hours journey to be with us’

We also caught up with our new 2nd team skipper James McKemey (who really is a PNCC legend). James never seems to age from year to year and and as always was looking in great shape. He said ‘ the 2nd team have a very exciting season to come playing high class cricket every week. Losing a ‘weapon’ like Riggy is going to be tough but we are nurturing replacements and hope to recruit one or two new players. We are looking to be very competitive in every game we play trying to take early wickets and then squeeze the middle order. As we play limited over cricket the most important aspect for me will be that we utilize every over available when batting’ As to the 1st competitive game James said ‘we are very much looking forward to opening our 2021 T20 Cup trail on Saturday 1st May at Worthing’

It was also lovely to catch up with people whom I met in my 1st season with the Nomads. The O’Brien boys, Owen, Kash and Stuart Faith who was just going in to bat and looking brill in his whites. He told me its his 21st season!

We hope you enjoyed this first report from season 2021. There will be more to come to this site as we get into the nuts and bolts. There will be match previews, reports, player interviews and messages from all involved here at the SCMG including officers, officials and sponsors.

Happy Easter All Cobo 3rd April 2021
