With just three League matches and a Sussex T20 semi-final to come there is still some great cricket to be played at the SCMG and beyond. Its time to roll up our collective sleeve, gird our loins and finish season 2019 on a real high.
The Bowman family are on holiday in Whitby from 17th August and will be back on Nomad duty 26th August. This column will tidy everything up as we go into the last match on 31st August and participate in the Preston Nomads End of Season Awards on the ground. A nite of celebration and camping ! See social media for more ticket info or contact organisers Terri and David S.
In this weeks trawl we look at two weeks’ worth of action and if you can stay awake you are a better man than I gungerdin!
1st Team Face Toughest Challenge, Play a T20 match and then Host our new friends, Mayfield.
On Saturday 17th August Dan and his 1st team travel to the bear pit of Roffey Main square (11.30 am start) where its tight and intimidating. Our hosts need no introduction as they have been brushing all aside here in Sussex over the past few seasons. They are at it again with no less than 6 league wins on the trot. One thorn in their side was a loss to Bexley in the ECB cup on 21st July. To an aggressive side they would have been a real upset. So they can be beaten!
Ben Manenti (891 runs) wicket keeper Jibran Khan (636 runs) and Rohit Jagota (595 runs) are the obvious threats with the bat but runs come from all over. Luke Barnard has 41 wickets to his name but skipper Matt Davis can throw the ball to it seems anyone and they get results.
There is no getting away from the fact that Champions Elect Roffey are going to be a handful.
Perhaps Roffey to go on their merry way!
T20 Semi Final
On Sunday 18th August 2pm start Dan and his team entertain Eastbourne CC in the Semi Final of the Sussex T20 Cup. We have been imperious in this competition however with any T20 match its tricky to ascertain what is going to happen. One good or bad over can tip the balance. Its sure to be an exciting afternoon around the SCMG so please come out in big numbers and cheer the boys on. There is a place in the showcase Hove final on 8th September up for grabs.
Dan to go marching on!!!
Mayfield Cc travel to the SCMG 24th August 11.30 am
On 22nd June we had a fantastic day at Mayfield’s home ground. The sun was shining, the ground looked fantastic and there was a huge party going on. Plus we won the game.
At that time Mayfield looked favourites to go down but recent results have put them in a promising position. Victories against Horsham EG and Brighton have has seen them climb out of the relegation zone. Overseas batsman keeper Kaushal Silva has turned on the style with two recent centuries. Team spirit must be on a high as they salvaged a low score against Horsham. It seems that Mayfield might beat the drop but they will need to find another win or two.
Nomads to give Mayfield a relegation wake up call.
Ed and the 2s Host Hastings and travel to Rottingdean Sussex Div 3
After last weeks loss at Bexhill Ed and his team will need to keep complacency at bay in order to win the Championship.
Bottom team Hastings travel to the SCMG (12.30 start) on 17th and there should be no reason for us to pick up another win.
On 24th we travel to Rottingdean and their wonderful ‘pringle’ style outfield. With just 5 wins to their name Rottingdean are far from relegation safety. Just 4 points out of the zone. That means they will be fighting for their lives and will be competitive on the day.
Ed to edge past a spirited opponent.
Third Team to play Ram away and Crawley Down at Home Sussex div 5 1pm start
After two consecutive losses David will be looking to pick up a win just to alleviate any end of season relegation concerns. Indeed one win and the team will be marching into a comfortable mid table slot.
On Saturday they travel to promotion seeking Ram who have ten league victories to their name. Its going to be a stern test one which David will enjoy.
They then host Crawley Down on 24th who have 8 wins to their name. We lost at their ground on 22nd June.
David to get his win!
Justin needs a win! Sussex div 8. 1pm Start
After two consecutive wins, a brilliant one at Streat, Justin and his 4th team came unstuck last Saturday. In terms of league status it wasn’t a disaster but you feel we will need a win in the last three games to make sure.
The boys host Bolney on Saturday who are mid table. Hopefully they will already be in decamp mood and we can take full advantage.
On 24th we travel to Felbridge who are also mid table. They beat us at the SCMG on 22 June so wounds will need to be healed.
Justin to take that important victory in the next fortnight.
There you have it. Enjoy the next two weekends and good luck to all connections. Please make sure to tune in to the Club social media platforms for updates. I will be doing that in North Yorkshire.
