Twos Put in Professional Display at Hastings While Fours move off the bottom as Rain falls at HQ

Chairman Robinson says ‘top day well done to all’

2nd Team Prevail at Horntye Park.

Our 2nd team maintained their excellent run, under skipper Ed Salkeild, to win at Hastings and move to the top of Sussex League Div 3 East this morning.  There is a bit of traveling to be done for the boys and a trip to Hastings is just part of the Eastern odyssey to be completed this season.  However, the squad are taking that all in their stride and are putting in some very professional performances.

Under blue skies and in comfortable temperatures the Hastings openers got off to a very nice start. Nomads opening attack of N Beck and S Khan bowled with rhythm and accuracy hitting good lines and lengths. As the score moved past 60 without loss, I spoke to Owen on the ropes who said ‘it’s a day for patience!’

That patience and hard work paid off when new bowlers Rigg and A Khan began to change fortunes. The 1st fell at 80 which sparked a cascade of Hastings wickets.  Owen, Manni and Jules got on top as Hastings stalled on 115 all out.   The inns was lite up by a spectacular run out by Shafi mid way through. ( Cobo sends a message of good luck to the Hastings batsman who pulled up with a pain full back issue and had to retire hurt, get well soon)

Tea taken

Chasing 116 to win seemed a breeze however the two attack bowlers got the best out of their wicket with movement and low bounce.  Our opening batsman struggled to find any cohesion and were soon back in the pavilion.  Skipper Ed made a wonderful decision to insert the experienced James McKemey (see his interview on social media platforms) up the order to number three.  After correctly seeing out a few overs and getting his eye in James entertained us all with some exciting technically correct straight drives on route to 47 not out.  Oliver Seymore Gatting in this case was very happy to play the supporting role with yet another not out score.

Skipper Ed told me this morning via social media ‘ Yesterday was another strong win for the 2nds. After a difficult start on a fairly unresponsive wicket, we bowled out Hastings for under 120 after they were 80 with out loss. It was a great team performance yet again with Owen and James as the two stand outs.   I have been really impressed with the season so far with a good mixture of experience and youth in the team. Discounting a poor performance at Rye we have been very strong with the 45/45 win/lose format favouring the players that we have.   There is a good feeling in the second team at the moment and we are pleased to be top of the league.  We now have three big weeks against Rottingdean, Portslade and Seaford’

Bowman said ‘ I really enjoyed my day so thanks to Hastings for hosting at Horntye Park. Good luck for the rest of the season. There was some excellent cricket on show some from the hosts but mainly from an experiences and competitive Nomad group. My man of the match goes to James for a very entertaining knock.  Good luck to the 2nds at home next Saturday.

Justin must be smiling this today!

After a very tough opening start to the season our 4th team are out of the doldrums and are nicely finding their feet in Sussex League Div 8.  After a second win on the trot at Bolney the boys are off the foot of the division and indeed are out of the relegation zone.    Over to Andy Garth with his online match report

4s win at Bolney

A great team effort at Bolney today by the 4ths. Youth and experience (old blokes) combing well. Carter opened with Juston (another 50) Bubble joined in The Issac and Stephen (another 50) scored 23 off one over.  Freddie bashed 66 (also nearly broke the shin of a bowler).  A total of 260 for 7. (Cobo says WOW!)

Pancho bowled 9 straight (absolute legend) diving to stop singles. Freddie then hit the opener on the helmet. Carter had a great spell and got a 3 for.  There was a direct hit and run out by Issac.  Panco juggled 3 times for a catch, Jeffers caught one (no movement required luckily). One for Issac One for Justin.  Three in the end for Fred who was asked to bowl spin by the oppo before he hurt anyone else.  Bolney ended up 198 for 8.  A very soggy 4th team delighted with back to back wins.

Bowman says ‘ I have a real soft spot for our 4th team and couldn’t be any prouder this morning with the two wins.  That batting display was awesome!!!  Keep it going at home on Sat to Felbridge’

Rain fell at HQ

After a stunning morning in Fulking forecasted rain turned up in the afternoon to ruin what could have been two very exciting matches.  Dan and his 1st team looked to be amassing a big score against Roffey (Nathan 70 odd not out) but the game was abandoned 10 points apiece.

Our 1st team travel to Mayfield on Saturday

On the south lawn our Third team under David Symes were right in the mix against Ram but the 2nd heavy rainstorm put paid to a very exciting climax to the game.  Its 10 points apiece.

Our 3rd team are at Crawley Down on Saturday.

Bowman says ‘ it’s a real shame that the rain turned up.  Messages of well done to Brian S and the club house staff. I am sure you guys had to work very hard all afternoon’

There you have it.
