Nomads Glide to ECB 3rd Round
Message from Dan, make sure to utilise Thursday nets!
The SCMG looked a picture under sunny skies yesterday which dovetailed very nicely with an emphatic Nomads victory against a young Brighton and Hove CC side. It turned into a top day for the club and it was great fun to share the action and post-match vibe.
It seems that our new club captain Dan Phillips, cant do a thing wrong at this time and he once again won the toss. It was a certainty that he would choose to bat.
As this column is constantly reminding you Usman (28) and Nathan (26) flew out the blocks getting the inns off to the blistering start. Housewives fantasy favourite Jake Hutson is proving to be the real deal with yet another well crafted half century. Our keeper batsman is just phenomenal at four and could be the player of the year come September.
But it was the 87 run partnership between Don S 46 and Alasdair W 50 n.o. which really stamped the authority on a brilliant 40 over total of 306 for 6. Dom cut loose with three or four massive straight maximums. Our opening overseas quickie Nav hit a lovely 30 not out in the final several overs.
In reply Stuart Pulford was in no mood to let the advantage slip through the fingers securing figures of 4 for 27 off 6 overs. Even though Steven Crosby (51) and Jonathon Conolly (87), the knock of the day, threatened some kind of reversal Owen Kernan, our much needed 2nd team skipper (Bowman says please note!) tore into the tail with three for 24 and a wonderful catch which left Brighton on a creditable 177 all out.
Dan said later ‘ two fantastic performances this weekend allowed us to continue our unbeaten run. In all areas we managed to dominate both Horsham and Brighton. There have been multiple performances of note over the weekend but more importantly is how the squad have backed themselves and each other to win games. We are lucky enough to have players coming in and out to perform at the highest level.
I would urge all club members to follow our lead and come to training every Thursday. Train hard and have a drink in the bar after!
Bowman says ‘ My god, there is a real feel good bubble around the whole club at the moment and none more so than our 1st team vibe. We are playing some great cricket and have taken some big early season scalps. As Dan says there is lot to be said to be taking part in our intense Thursday nite training sessions. I even had Adam Obrien, he’s one of our own, banging on about it this weekend.
As for Sunday there were some fantastic performances to consider but for me carrying your bat through those middle and late stages always deserves a mention. A calm knock of 50 n.o. and not withstanding he is in my fantasy team Alastair is my man of the match. See interview on media sites
We have some exciting fixtures to come not least Roffey away in the ECB cup. However, lets concentrate on a tough afternoon to come at the Saffrons on Saturday. Its sure to be another huge test for Dan and his team.
