Good morning Nomads and welcome to your week-end preview. Its all hands to the pump as we expect one hell of a busy time at the SCMG and beyond.
ECB Cup 2nd Round 12th May 1pm 40 overs.
We start with perhaps the most important fixture of the season so far as skipper Dan Phillips leads his team out at 1pm on Sunday 12th May (SCMG North Square) for the ECB Cup 2nd round. There will be a lot of club pride up for grabs as its Brighton and Hove CC who will be making the short hop across the South Downs.
In the previous round our skipper sparkled with a very well-crafted century in a victory over Lindfield. We followed up with a grinding victory at EG in the League. Brighton were afforded a bye in the previous round and lost their 1st league game against Roffey. Matt Machin the beacon with 121.
The weather looks fantastic so make sure we get a good posse of Nomad supporters out to Fulking to cheer Dan and the boys on. If we can get past our fierce rivals, then the ECB will take on renewed excitement. You don’t know where it may take us.
Nomads to progress, just!
1st Team at Home in the Sussex Premier League 11.30 start 50/50 11th May
Horsham CC make the short hop south to play on our North Square (11.30 Pm start 50/50) in the Sussex Premier League. Sussex red ball opening bat Tom Haines revelled in a comfortable win against Eastbourne last Saturday scoring 86 and taking 2 for 22. I would stick my neck out to suggest he will be in the line up this Saturday. After a grinding winning start at EG on Saturday Dan and the boys will looking to follow up on home soil. With the weather looking pretty special hopefully we can start to really open up on all disciplines. To all our fans make sure to get there in time for the start of the Nomads inns. We won’t be hanging around!
Nomads to follow up.
East is East for the Twos, The Salts Rye 12.30 start.
If you like a long away day then this is for you. Our Twos face a rather daunting trip east to the evocatively named The Salts, Rye for a Division 3 league match. Our hosts looked good in their first game at Portslade scoring 189 off the allotted. We will never know how good as rain came down to spoil the afternoon. Luke Payton top scored with 42. As for the Nomads we were in uncompromising mood against Seaford last week with Safi (a ton) and Stephen (5 for) the standout players.
If we travel well Nomads to be very competitive again.
Three’s Comfort of a Home fixture. 1 pm start Division 5
After two gruelling away games on the trot our threes will be very pleased to be on our South Square on Saturday against Cuckfield 2s. They lost their 1st match but were magnificent at Balcombe last week where Jules Hunt scored 32 off the 1st over. Haven’t seen the team selection but hopefully skipper Symes will be back in action (Knee). Our visitors put a very sorry St James to the sword last week when a young man, George Mercer took 5 wickets. Now wasn’t he my Nomad Colt of the year 2015??? Hmmm !
Too close to call.
4ths off to Hurst looking to kick start season. 1pm start Division 8.
After a set back against Three Bridges last week skipper Justin will be leading his team out at Hurst and you feel into the lion’s den. Our 4th team have a wonderful set of hard-nosed experienced cricketers mixed with some keen youngsters. We will be competitive in every game. However, our hosts were very strong last weekend at Plumpton. Mike Thatcher 82 and Simon Tunley 76 took the game away with a powerful opening partnership.
We will need to be at our very best!
Youth Teams in Full Swing U14s beat Brighton at the Nevill
Our Youth section is now fully up and running with fixtures virtually every day. We will try to keep you up to date as best we can.
Huge congrats to our U14s who get the bragging rights over Brighton. Oscar Jackson 34 not out was our star batsman as we made 130. Wickets were shared as Brighton stalled on 85 all out.
Our U12s were very strong against Burgess Hill scoring 218 runs. Stan Tucker and Jack Bunday brilliant opening pair and Rupert Morris two wickets for two runs.
This afternoon our (9th May) our U13s are in action v Brighton from 6pm. On Sunday our U13s are in ECB action at home to Brighton 6pm start. Also, that day our U11s and U9s have matches. The press officer urges fans out to Fulking to cheer on our U13s in the ECB cup. Its an important event for our young lads.
To finish this round up don’t forget our club BBQ on Saturday evening. Its sure to be a great evening.
Please follow all the action on twitter and whatsapp over both days. I will be making the long trip east to be with our 2nd team (not sure by train or in the Merc soft top yet). But tweets and messages will start pretty early.
Its gonna be busy, lets go Nomads!!
