Welcome to season 2019 and the SCMG (Spen Cama Memorial Ground) as Preston Nomads CC gear up for an ultra-exciting summer here in West Sussex.  From all reports our groundsman, Brian and assistants, have made great progress on the ground and its sure to be as pretty as a picture as the action hots up.  I am sure that all connections are very excited about our chances to progress this season from our new 1st team skipper, Dan right down to our very youngest member who plays with a plastic ball.  Here at Nomads there are plenty of opportunities to improve your game and enjoy this sport.

For those of you who know me ignore the next paragraph or two.   My name is Colin Bowman and it will be my honour to return as your Press Officer.  I shared four very enjoyable seasons around the SCMG.  In short, my main target is to report from a game every Saturday and to catch up with cup matches and our Mid Week exhibition games.  My Friday round up will preview the coming week and hint towards the main match. On a Monday there will be a full match report and photos.  You youngsters will not be missing out as this column aims to visit every year group at some point during the season.  Please be sure to be glued to the Nomads website and twitter platform for updates and reports.  If you see me pacing around the boundary with camera and clipboard in hand, make sure to come up and say hi.

Having retired from the Insurance Industry today my time this summer will be focused on cricket, cricket and even more cricket.  I am passionate about anything Sussex especially the sporting arena.  In the winter Burgess Hill Town Fc, my home town, takes all the focus and as these notes reach you, we are in the process of a Bostik Premier League relegation Houdini act.  Also, this summer my endeavours will take me to Sussex CCC 2nd team games and the youth vibe. Plus, will also be keeping tabs on Brighton Brunswick Cc.   One fly in the ointment is of a total knee replacement on 11th April 2019.  It’s quite a big one but please bear with me while the healing process takes place.

Moving forward I want all members to utilise the fantastic Nomads Play Cricket website very closely.  It’s the place to see all matches coming up.   The first action are two friendly games against our friends from Norfolk, Swardeston Cc on 13th and 14th April. It’s a great curtain opener and a chance to welcome, Nomads legend Joe Gatting back to Sussex.  The cricket will be white hot and its certain that the social side of things will high on the agenda.   Our U15s will open the Junior section with a game on 22nd at Southwick.  3rd team Skipper David Symes will open the league vibe on Sat 27th visiting Ifield in the 5th division.

The most important exciting and important fixture is our ECB Cup match on Sunday 28th April 2019 1pm start.  Its against our great local rivals Lindfield CC at the SCMG. Please get down to Fulking to cheer the guys on in this prestigious Cup.  Skipper Dan Phillips has advised ‘we will have a very strong side out that day and we hope to go deep into the competition’.  Its sure to be a fascinating encounter where the visitors are going to be very difficult to beat.

Let’s get to it people. Cricket is now just around the corner.   Good luck to all members over the next several weeks.

WE ARE ON THE VERGE!!!
