UGH. POO. GRR.
Etc.
We lost.
We don’t do that much. I don’t think we’d ever done it against the Academy. But now we have.
But it happens. So lets Scribe through it and put it to bed.
Annoyingly we won the toss. Again. Kashy again went for Plan A. Seemed to start pretty well with Big C, but we got a highly disappointing outcome on one in the first over, which was very surprising for all, none more so than the batsman. The feeling of guttedness was emphasised by an even more disappointing outcome that robbed Scribe of a metre or so deflector a few overs later. But that’s cricket.
We picked ourselves up and went at it. The O-Dogg got a breakthrough. Carlo followed him. The Honey Monster got his second and then Carlo followed him.
They were 4 down for ages. Riggy was next to be disappointed, Scribe robbed again. Not great sportsmanship from the youngsters on display it has to be said. I wonder what the “Team Psychologist” (no really, they have one - absolutely hysterical!) makes of it all.
Still we battled through. Riggy got 3 and there was a run out. Young Jack Snips bowled good areas somewhere in there and Kash finished strong. The youths were all out for 201. Not enough if we batted to our ability.
Oh but we didn’t.
Tea was all too much for some of the youngsters who couldn’t quite believe the array. But this was no mirage; it was just Jan’s Sunday pasta spread.
Anyway. We started okay. They had a young black kiddy with some good wheels, particularly chasing down balls in the outfield - jeez can he move!
Then we all got out in crap ways really. Gouldy and Faithy threw it away a bit. Lord Green was hard done by with his, Wakeford was caught very well by young Davies trying to hook a ball that was about a foot above his head (one such delivery was given as a no-ball in the first innings, but I must say I don’t know how the rules work with that). Az got a decent nut, but in form I’d have backed him to drop his hands. Scribe played his first ball like he’d never held a bat in his life and still can’t work out why. Anyway, it all ended when O-Dogg got the first one of the game that really rolled and bowled him.
A sickening loss and though a few things went against us it was our batting performance that cost us the game. So no excuses. But well played to the Academy, they always field very well, but today they really bowled well and took advantage of the poor batting performance from the heroes.
Scorecard. (10 byes?! Wow. Where did that come from?! Believe me, if Scribe conceded 10 byes he would still be bleeding from the self flagellation. I thought I'd seen the only ball that went by signalled as a borderline 5 leg side wides and therefore conceded 0. Oh well!)
But there you go. You can’t win every game. Now we will look to make this an exception in our season as we head into a week off to rest our weary limbs and cracked little fingers. We’re 20 points clear at the top for now and we’ll look to come back and finish strong.
